Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement

Our multi-level home is in a quiet neighborhood on California’s spectacular Central Coast and close to Carmel-by-the-Sea village. Our house sits on the ridge of a cul-de-sac knoll just off Carmel Valley Road, between Carmel Village and Carmel Valley. It is close to shopping, beaches and just a few miles to Monterey, Santa Cruz and other coastal cities.
Our large living room includes a cathedral ceiling, fireplace and a large-screen TV/surround-sound stereo system. A wall of French doors opens to the deck overlooking a sunny patio, a grove of live-oak trees, hills and Monterey pines. The deck adjoins the dining area and kitchen with Brazilian granite counters. The laundry room and powder rooms are on the main floor. Upstairs, the master bedroom suite with king-size bed has a renovated private bath, walk-in closet and reading alcove. A loft overlooking the living room serves as an office with two desks, couch and adjoining renovated full bath. Downstairs from the main level are three bedrooms, two of which open through French doors to a shared deck overlooking an oak grove and meadow where resident wildlife includes deer, bobcats, coyote, rabbits, hawks, owls and gophers. On this level one bedroom has a queen bed, another a double bed and the third a queen bed. There is a full renovated bathroom.

Cooling, morning fog is common across coastal California, but the weather is generally sparkling and temperate. Enjoyable pastimes include surfing, kayaking among seals and otters in Monterey Bay. Wonderful walking, biking and hiking trails dot the region and there are miles of beautiful sandy beaches where families and their dogs walk and jog.

There is a Monterey-Salinas Transit bus route that stops down the hill from us and provides access to Carmel-by-the -Sea and Monterey, going north, and Carmel Valley, going south.

There is some local public (bus) transportation and we are willing to consider a car exchange for local travel. There is a shuttle between San Francisco International Airport and downtown Monterey. Monterey Regional Airport has connecting flights from San Francisco, LA, Denver, Seattle, Phoenix and Las Vegas.

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier

California’s Monterey Peninsula, which John Steinbeck termed “Eden” in his book East of Eden, includes several adjacent towns on a forested, rocky peninsula jutting into the Pacific Ocean and the cavernous Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary (the “Serengeti of the Sea”). It includes stunning scenery, a varied cultural environment, fabulous culinary experiences and opportunities for physical activities for all ages. Internationally known as a convenient stopping point between LA and San Francisco and a place to unwind and rebalance, the Monterey Peninsula is a gem: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/20/travel/monterey-california-on-a-budget.html

Each Peninsula town shows distinctive characteristics. Your itinerary will include Carmel, founded in 1906 as an artist colony with storybook architecture, scores of art galleries, fine dining, shopping and fabulous beaches. Pebble Beach has world-famous golf courses, the 17-Mile Drive, seaside mansions, and the famous “lone cypress” tree. Monterey, the Spanish capital of California until 1848, includes Old Fisherman’s Wharf, Cannery Row, a world-class Aquarium, and Spanish-era historic adobe buildings. Pacific Grove, “America’s Last Hometown,” features a friendly culture, classic Victorian architecture, Monarch butterfly habitat, Point Pinos Lighthouse, and Instagram-worthy Oceanic Boulevard. Seaside, Marina and Sand City (“SoHo West”) offer vibrant commercial districts, ethnic cultures, towering sand dunes and expansive beaches. For leisure activities, the area offers golf, tennis, hiking, scuba diving, surfing, kayaking, whale-watching, fishing, cycling, skydiving, and wine-tasting in the Santa Lucia Highlands, Carmel Valley and Santa Cruz Mountain vineyards.

For many visitors, the Peninsula fits the description by early modernist landscape artist Francis McComas (1875-1938) as the “greatest meeting of land and sea” in the world. People spend days exploring the coastline from Point Lobos to Marina with its syncopated alternation of pristine beaches and rocky promontories, coves, tidepools and dunes.

South of Carmel along the Pacific Coast Highway lie Point Lobos Natural Reserve and Big Sur--home of literary legends, redwood forests and an endless, craggy coastline. To the north is hipster Santa Cruz with its beach and surf culture and Boardwalk amusement park with vintage rides. To the east is Salinas, the National Steinbeck Center, and the “Salad Bowl of the World” agricultural heartland that stretches for miles. Slightly longer northerly expeditions include San Francisco, San Jose, Silicon Valley and Napa/Sonoma wine country. Beckoning south are Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles.

The unparalleled qualities of the Monterey Peninsula make it a favored destination; celebrity sightings are common. Annual international events in music, sports, cars, and food and wine include: Carmel Bach Festival (July); California (“Cali”) Roots Music and Arts Festival (May); Monterey Jazz Festival (September); Monterey Car Week (Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance) (August); WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca; AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (January/February); Big Sur International Marathon (April); Monterey Winemakers Celebration (May); Big Sur Food and Wine Festival (November); Carmel Culinary Week (January). Many of our guests choose to participate in such events.

Please note: for Guest Point exchanges there is a cleaning fee of $150.. For all guests: we have a cleaning person who will deep clean the home sometime after guests depart, but due to unpredictability of scheduling a cleaning, we expect guests to adhere to Home Exchange policies: "In general..., guests are expected to leave the homes as they find them, so it's up to them to clean at the end of their stay." This does not mean a deep cleaning, but making sure that mainly the kitchen and bathroom surfaces are wiped down, floor debris swept up, trash taken out and dishwasher run with remaining dirty dishes. Other basic departure requirements are listed for guests on a separate sheet which we will leave in the house.

No pets or smoking permitted.
