Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement
Our house is a single story house set in a large garden with mature trees. It's a family house that we have renovated over the years. It is typical of the area with large windows opening on to the garden and shutters that we semi close in the summer to keep the house fresh inside. The neighbourhood is a residential area, 1.5km from the centre of town. It has a spacious terrace to eat outside and enjoy nature. It is well equipped inside. We have 4 bedrooms, all with double beds. The furniture is an eclectic mix from Provence and from pieces brought back from our travels. Under the trees, you can enjoy a siesta in our gazebo from the island of Timor. It suits families with children because there is a lot of space to run around in the garden and we have indoor and outdoor games. For children it is secured all around by a gate and walls. Our children love going there.
Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier
Valréas is in Provence, in the North of the Vaucluse département. Its location is unique because it belongs, with 3 other villages, to a small area that used to be the Popes land, « l’enclave des Papes ». Nowadays, it’s a touristy region and visitors enjoy the vineyards, the lavendar fields and all the small picturesque villages spread around the hills and the valleys. Valréas itself is a small town of 10 000 inhabitants with all the commodities needed (supermarkets, shops, banks, restaurants, one cinema).
There is an excellent wine route to go and taste the best Côtes du Rhone wines that can take you to Chateauneuf du Pape. It’s always a lot of fun to shop at the weekly village markets and spend some relaxing time in typical inns and restaurants on village squares.
The area was inhabited by the Romans and there are many sites to visit today. In the summer months, many festivals take place (theatre, music, opera, films etc…) and Valréas hosts the Night of St John’s with hundreds of participants in medieval costumes on June 24th and the Lavender festival at the end of July every year. The Mont Ventoux (35km) is a famous landmark often visited by the Tour de France and the villages around it are very picturesque.
We recommend to have a vehicle to fully enjoy the region and have freedom to stop when you want. The area is excellent for cycling and hiking with many marked paths. There are small rivers where to have an enjoyable picnic and enjoy nature and the town has a lovely small public park for strolls. Valréas has a town swimming pool. Next to the villa, there is a small lake with a popular little restaurants and locals come to fish or play pétanque (boules).
From Valréas you can explore the region and easily reach some recommended towns: Grignan castle (10km), Nyons (14km), Vaison la Romaine (25km), Dieulefit (30km), Orange (35km), Montélimar (35km), Avignon (80km), the Mediterranean (160km), Gap and the pre-Alps (100k), Arles (130km), Nimes (100km) etc…
