Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement
We live in a comfortable wooden and modern house, build in 2005. It has a noticeably light and open feel to it!
You enter at the open and modern kitchen area (renovated in 2022, with oven, refrigerator, freezer, washing machine, wash dryer, pantry, espressomachine and slow-coffee options) from which you walk down to the living area.
In this area we have a large table we use during the day: eating, working, playing games, etc. On the table you'll find a map with maps, suggestions for all sorts of things to do, etc. You can watch TV or play games on the XBOX One S (also our DVD-player). From here you reach the terrace and the shared garden. You'll have a beautiful view on the "Geniedijk", a dike which is a UNESCO monument.
On the first floor you'll find our bathroom and separate toilet. At the front of the house is Benthe's bedroom, with a view of Vijfhuizen and our community orchard. Our first floor living area has a splendid view on the fort. A nice room for reading or binge-watching Netflix series on your tablet. We also recommend just watching the clouds go by. In the attic room, you will find the master bedroom.
The shared garden (for residents only) is perfect for (small) children, they can play and meet friends without encountering any traffic. We love it here. After a busy day you can relax, eat a meal outside, have a chat with the neighbors, or just be on your own. For the kids there's a trampoline for them to play on. From the shared garden you can take the steps to the Genie Dike and have an amazing view on the Fort, which you can also visit of course.
The house is best suited for three persons, two adults and a teenager/child. Our daughter sleeps in a loft bed.
Our house is part of the Fortwachters housing project. The project has won a price for the architecture, and from the photo's you can get a feel for the project.
Our house is adjacent to the shared garden, and we live 'close' to our neighbors because of the terrace that connects our houses. Because of this we do appreciate each other's privacy and try to avoid any disturbance late at night.
But we also like to do things together, like sharing a BBQ or get around the campfire on a Saturday-afternoon. It's a unique setup and we feel very blessed with such amazing neighbors and friends, and we gladly invite you to appreciate this unique living situation and be part of it. Our neighbors are always willing to help and appreciate a chat! But they also will respect your privacy and let you be!

We are incredibly lucky to have found this house! It's a unique environment. Green, quiet, and on the property of "Fort Vijfhuizen", part of a large 19th century defense work of Amsterdam and now a protected UNESCO monument.
The fort has obtained a new function as a small modern art center, with exhibitions and interesting art projects, atelier workshops and a restaurant. The house we live in is part of the "Fortwachters" project, which has been awarded with an architecture price. Our neighbors are friendly, always willing to help and respects each other's privacy.
Our home is very centrally located. We can reach the historic center of the beautiful city of Haarlem in 15 minutes, by car or bus.
Amsterdam or the beach is just 30-45 minutes away, by car or public transport. We have a great bus connection with Schiphol Airport: 30 minutes, from door to door. There's an express bus stop in Vijfhuizen (5-minute walk) that connects the cities of Haarlem, Hoofddorp, Schiphol Airport, Amstelveen, and Amsterdam South-East. Via the train stations of Haarlem, Hoofddorp or Schiphol Airport you have quick connections to Amsterdam Central Station, Leiden, The Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht, or Alkmaar. Public transport in the Netherlands is convenient but sometimes expensive, so we can negotiate a car exchange as well.
The village Vijfhuizen is small. It has a supermarket for your daily groceries and a fresh bakery.
We mostly do our shopping in Haarlem, with its markets on Friday and Saturday, lunch cafes and coffee places. Haarlem has been awarded 'best shopping city' of the Netherlands multiple times. Haarlem is a beautiful city, with a nice historic center, the Van Hals Museum, the most beautiful trainstation in the Netherlands and more. Sure, you want to visit Amsterdam, but you will be so surprised about Haarlem!
We live next to a large recreational area, the Haarlemmermeerse Bos, where you can walk, swim, ride your mountain bike, etc. Via Haarlem you can take the train to Zandvoort beach. Or go by car, and we'll direct you to other beach locations.
We have various kinds of nature in a 30-minute radius. Dunes, the beach, polder landscapes with its small lakes and canals, forests, and wetlands. If you like cycling, you are in the right place! Or bring your running shoes!
