Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement
My home is a tiny apartment in an older apartment building in Kadıköy, 5-10 minutes from the bus station, subway and ferry boats. It is on the Asian side of the city.
It is on a lively street with 5 cafes, the only cars are those making deliveries.
It has everything I need: washing machine, internet and enough space that I never feel cramped.
My home has many house plants.
My tiny patio is becoming a greenhouse.
You never have to worry about the grow lights, which are on timers.
You probably will not ever have to water the plants unless you stay for months.
It is not a luxury apartment, in fact it is the opposite of luxury.
It is really comfortable, functional and super convenient.
I am able to provide lots of advice on the neighborhood, the city and the country because I have travelled extensively in the last 13-14 years that I have been living here. I am also available during my guests stays to help with navigating the practical necessities, recommending places to eat, places to go and how to get to them.
I often schedule a video chat before people come here so that there is a real person associated with this tiny apartment.
I do not charge a cleaning fee.
That said, please clean up and leave the apartment the way you found it.
One more thing:
If you are flying from the UK, Ireland, Europe or the Gulf States check out Pegasus Airlines and Anadolu Jet, Turkey’s budget airlines. Most flights land at Sabiha Gökçen Airport, which is a subway ride away from my apartment.

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier
Kadıköy is a really old neighborhood near the Bosphorus Sea. The sea is a 5-10 minute walk from my apartment. It is a comfortable place with ex-pats and local families. There is a bi-weekly farmers market, it is the home of the Fennerbahçe Football Club and Stadium and it is famous for the Çarşı shopping area near the sea. There are so many cafes, restaurants, bars and places to go for music and entertainment.
Le mot de la fin
Please, please contact me about your travel plans.
I really can be flexible regardless of my current calendar.
I am retired and I can arrange reciprocal or non reciprocal exchanges with flexibility.
I can be easily persuaded to visit places that I might not have thought about if you are interested in a reciprocal exchange at a particular/specific time.
My home is in an excellent location - Kadıköy.
There are great bars and restaurants, as well.
My neighborhood is busy and safe.
I prefer guest point arrangements right now because I just spent them all, but I am open to other arrangements, so please ask about reciprocal, non-simultaneous reciprocal exchanges.
There is only 1 bed in my apartment, so keep that in mind if you are traveling with a friend that you do NOT want to sleep with. That’s really my only concern about more than 1 person staying here.
New information, as of March 11, 2025:
1. I have a new electric water heater, so shower time is shorter per person.
There is also a wait time between showers (if there is more than 1 person here)
The water is also super hot, even on "Eco" mode.
2. I have a new Dehumidifier with a HEPA filter. This machine works really well at removing the humidity from the apartment and cleaning the air. It is set on automatic 60% humidity. If you stay here for more than a few days, you will probably have to empty the water collection receptacle. It is super easy and I will leave really clear instructions.
3. I have a new radiator that is set on an automatic timer.
It works really well, you don't have to do anything :)
My DO/DON'T Policies (please agree before pre-approval):
Please do NOT:
1. wear shoes inside. (No-one in Turkey wears shoes inside)
2. smoke inside, or on the veranda. (There are 5 lovely cafes right outside the door of my apartment where smoking at outdoor tables is welcomed)
3. don’t flush toilet paper, there is a receptacle for it in the bathroom. This could be a disaster as the pipes are old and my apartment is at the bottom of the building waste system.
4. turn off, unplug or adjust the light timers for the house plants.
Please DO:
1. ALWAYS take keys with you when you leave the apartment, if the door to the apartment closes it will lock.
There are no spare keys in Istanbul. You will have to hire a locksmith.
2. turn off the faucets in the kitchen and bathroom sinks really hard, or they will drip. (one of the signs of an old apartment in Istanbul)
3. ONLY IF THERE IS ANOTHER GUEST COMING AFTER YOU (I will let you know about this) wash the sheets and towels.(If you bring your own full size sheets and towels then you don’t have to use the washing machine, which is really easy to use)
4. Take out trash and clean before you leave.
5. Lock the gate padlock when you go out in the day time and when you come back for the night
