Our home:

A rural, island escape in a welcoming community, we are minutes from beaches, hiking trails and the vibrant community of Ganges, the main sea-side village. This quiet and private home on Salt Spring Island is a sanctuary from which to enjoy adventure, or just escape to. All on one level, it's a 2100 sqft (200 m2) spacious 2 (or 3) bed, 2 bath home with two office/studio spaces. Our home has a spacious kitchen, large dining space and living room with 2 sitting areas (one for morning sunrises, and one for evening movies or a warm fire in winter). The largest bedroom has a skylight and is the kid room. Beside it is the main bathroom and 2 desk studio-office (with elliptical exercise machine). Beyond that, separated from the rest of the house by the 2nd bathroom/laundry room, is the adult master (queen) and beyond it a larger studio/office. This 2nd studio space could be converted into a 3rd bedroom if needed (using a spare twin bed).

Wireless Internet throughout, 50" Flat Screen TV, PS4/Blu-ray, Cable, Netflix. It comfortably sleeps 4, but could sleep 6 for shorter stays: 1 Queen, 1 twin bed with twin trundle and 1 queen sofa-bed in living room.

Note the home's lower level is a self-contained suite that's generally unoccupied, but occasionally it's used by the co-owners (an adventurous retired couple) as a holiday home.

The Property:

A large wrap around deck with an outdoor dining table provides views of snow-capped Mount Baker and the islands of Active Pass. In the yard find a level area for badminton, a hammock in the shade, a 30' swing, and a fire-pit area.

Our property is 2 acres – half is a wild forest (frequented by deer, mink, rabbits, eagles, ravens and barred owls) with two seasonal creeks, a foot bridge and fairy doors; the other half is fully fenced and yields various plum and apple varieties, raspberries and strawberries. The sunny yard supports Arbutus and Garry Oaks as Salt Spring is in a warm part of Canada known for it's temperate, 'Mediterranean' climate. Perfect for "forest bathing" we even have an outdoor shower that faces onto our private forest. Transit is walking distance (1.5 km), but our 4x4 Honda Element (stick-shift) is available/negotiable to get to town and to more remote areas needed.

Off the property enjoy restaurants, vineyards, bakeries, cafes, hiking, kayaking, sailing, golfing, swimming beaches, exploring shops, listening to live music, visiting artisan galleries, scuba diving, spas, fishing, yoga, farmers markets, etc... all are close at hand.

Regular sea-planes can take you to Vancouver in about 30 minutes, or enjoy traveling by the frequent ferries to Victoria via 35 min ferry, Vancouver and Whistler (for World-class skiing) via 3 hr ferry or get to the many destinations on Vancouver Island via 25 min ferry and a drive (for surfing in Tofino or local Mount Washington ski hills). Not that you'll want to leave Salt Spring.

Between rocky bluffs of Garry Oak find valleys of towering cedars on this island of warm, dry summers and mild winters. Winding roads lead to abundant artist's studios, honor-box farm stands (of fruit preserves, baked goods and farm fresh eggs), and numerous funky shops as well as everything one needs to never have to leave. At 10,000 people, Salt Spring is just large enough to warrant an indoor pool, a fantastic high-school, middle school and many great elementary schools, great restaurants, a movie theatre and new library, but absent are fast food, large chain stores and traffic lights.
