Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement

Our home is a two-story house in Huntington Beach, located in a safe, quiet neighborhood about 5 minutes walk from a magnificent beach. Downstairs we have a very large master bedroom and two bedrooms with queen sized beds. There is also a modern kitchen/family room, living room, dining room and two bathrooms. Our two-car garage is attached through a laundry/pantry. Upstairs we have a bathroom and large guestroom also serving as the family museum for artifacts and photos collected on world and local adventures. Our upstairs office adjoins a very large TV room. The office includes several PCs wired high speed to the net. Our home features a family photo genealogy gallery, Shaker style living room and dining room and modest art collection. Gardening and housekeeping services will tend to the weekly upkeep.

Most of our home time is spent in the kitchen where we all enjoy cooking with gas. We have a bright breakfast nook for family dining, but from May through October we usually pass all meals out a kitchen portal to the covered back patio. Homegrown tomatoes grace our summer table. Our preoccupation with fine food is fostered by the nearby Farmers/Fishers Market (Fridays, 2 to 5 PM), roadside stands and numerous ethnic supermarkets. When short on time or long on adventure, the family dines Vietnamese, Korean, Thai, Indian, Chinese, Japanese or even American at local family and gourmet restaurants. Massimo’s, the finest pizza/spaghetti family sports-bar in So California (personal opinion) is three minutes walk toward the beach.

Local sport abounds, including night-lighted tennis, volleyball and basketball, swimming pool and racquetball, and golf (3 courses within a 30 minute drive). A favorite recreation is bicycling, popular because the terrain is flat and most cities designate bike lanes. The beach trail covers at least 40 miles, mostly surfside. We have 3 adult bikes, 1 kid bike and a variety of skates and boards. Deep sea sport fishing and diving are also available at innumerable local venues.

And then, of course, there ís the beach: we are located at the center of a 10 mile open stretch that extends from Newport Harbor on the East to Huntington Harbor on the West. The beach along most of this stretch is about a quarter mile wide, featuring sand with the consistency of sifted flour. The beach across from our home is dotted with hundreds of fire pits that are home to BBQ picnics throughout the summer. Most of the mile right across from our house features surf tame enough for children, with a lifeguard tower every 400 yards. A few minutes walk, however, brings one to a world class surf beach. Amateur and professional competitions are held each summer within 30 minutes walk from our home. A walking/biking/rollerblading beach path borders the entire stretch. Piers along the beach (in Huntington, Balboa and Newport) serve as centers for community activity. Young adults congregate along the walk at arcades, game rooms, volleyball games, skate and board rentals and refreshment stands. The area is safe for all ages because Huntington and neighboring Newport Beach are known for no-nonsense law enforcement; alcohol is prohibited on the beach. Huntington and Newport Beach also have lively night scenes, movie theaters and pedestrian zones at their respective piers.

Our location is convenient for shopping of all kinds. The Pacific Coast Highway bus leaves from Masimos for a 15-minute ride to Fashion Island Mall and numerous department stores and hundreds of specialty stores including the finest and most expensive shops south of Beverly Hills. South Coast Plaza, one of the highest revenue malls in America, is a 10-minute drive.

We occasionally get the urge to get far away from civilization. Camping: Cuyamaca Rancho and Palomar Mountain are each about 3 hours drive away. Over 5000 feet elevation, they beat the summer heat while featuring large, forested, private sites and hot showers. Rugged mountain and true wilderness camping is also available within 2 hours on the near side of the San Jacinto Mountains or 10 miles offshore on the Channel Islands. Further afield: early reservations are advised if you want to camp in the National Parks of Yosemite (6 hours drive) or Kings Canyon/Sequoia (5 hours). Many other camping opportunities exist, including fabulous beach Hike&Bike sites, which are restricted to hike-iners, bike-iners or ocean kayak-iners. For the out of the ordinary, you may camp on the beach (2 hours north) under the launch path of Vandenberg Base, from which frequent space launches liven the night sky. Some of the world’s most impressive but treacherous desert is within a three hour drive. In contrast, one of the world’s most unique resorts is found in Palm Springs (2 hour drive). Here, 10,000 foot peaks look straight down on an exclusive village of pools, spas and golf courses baked to quietude at over 105F (41C) during the day but awakening to a night life of balmy desert breezes after dark. Great off-season hotel and entertainment deals abound.

Selected other nearby attractions include (driving time in minutes): the Getty Art Museum (60), baseball Dodgers (55) and Angels(30); Disneyland (30); Crystal Cathedral (20); Knotts Berry Farm Amusement Park (30); University California Irvine (20); Wild Water Park (20); Laguna Beach (20): Pageant of the Masters and art galleries; Mission San Juan Capistrano (40); Pacific Amphitheater (10); Hollywood Bowl (55); Brea Tar Pits Museum (50); Beverly Hills (50); Los Angeles: museums, theaters and cultural events (55); Chinatown (50); UCLA (50); Queen Mary (30); So. We have compiled a 30 page booklet detailing these and other meaningful activities. At our home the midday temperature in summer will reach 85F (30C). The evening is cooled by 3 to 4 hours of brisk onshore sea breezes starting around 3 in the afternoon. There is no rain between May and November. Our gardeners and irrigation keep the back garden fresh; you may likely choose to dine outdoors among the ferns and flowers every night.

Allergies require us to exchange with homes that are non-smoking without pets. Our home is relatively hypoallergenic. We want to exchange for a total of 3 to 4 weeks between approximately 6 July to 31 July.

We look forward to sharing our home, city and state with you! Most importantly, our past exchanges will confirm that we respectfully care for your home and property; in particular, our children come with excellent exchange references. Reference and photo exchange gladly upon request.
