A roofed terrace wraps this contemporary home with views of Arenal Lake, Arenal Volcano, jungles & tropical gardens. You will hear a jungle river in the distance lulling you to sleep every night. ONLY ROOM FOR TWO. 1 bedroom upstairs, 1 bed, 2 full baths, one En-Suite up and another down, well stocked kitchen, living & dining room, a large covered wrap around terrace. Wireless internet, smart Satellite TV. Gas grill. US plumbing. On demand hot water everywhere. Many activities...horseback riding, private waterfall, jungle hike, bird watching, tropical gardens and great eating of all types here or in nearby El Castillo...about a 10 minute drive. Serious hiking, hot springs, river tubing, zip lines, hanging bridges, and much more less than a 40 minute drive. Many are much closer. Private. Perfect for Honeymooners! Perfect for bird lovers! Perfect for hikers and nature lovers! Perfect for you!
When we bought this property over 6 years ago, John described the view as “The most beautiful and spiritual view I had ever seen." Standing on the property...about 3 acres...the Arenal Volcano dominated the landscape. And in the same view, there was Lake Arenal...not to be outdone, in front of the lower part of the volcano, was the jungle...with a river, sight unseen, singing it's song 24/7. We bought the property the day we saw it. We built a beautiful contemporary home, with what you would expect in an American home...on demand hot water in every room, American plumbing where you can actually flush the toilet paper, (unusual in Costa Rica), screens on the windows and fans on the ceilings. The bedroom is air conditioned, although in the years we have been here we have never needed it. Fresh air is welcomed into the house so inside or out you can take advantage of the amazing Costa Rica weather. Come along on a verbal tour.
After you park your car in the carport, you will walk through the first of 7 hand carved doors (all designed from photos John has taken.) You are astounded by the view provided by the floor to ceiling glass walls that let you be a part of nature. Your dining room table is hand made from a tree trunk slab as the top and a root section as the base. The kitchen features a gas stove with 2 ovens, a large refrigerator/freezer, a walk-in pantry, coffee maker, rice maker, blender, mixer, food processor, toaster and most every other gadget you will need to cook absolutely fabulous meals. Your flat screen TV (with a satellite connection and some English programming) can be watched from the leather couch or from two comfortable chairs with ottomans. The chairs swivel 180 degrees to let you look outside through the floor to ceiling tinted windows while reading or relaxing. Your terrace wraps around the house giving you perfect views of Arenal Volcano, Lake Arenal, Arenal National Park and the Children's Eternal Rainforest. A stairway leads to a private tropical garden with walking paths for you to enjoy the plantings and fauna. There you will find banana trees, wonderful eatable red hibiscus you can pick for your salads or tea, many flowering tropical plants, hummingbirds, flycatchers as well as tanagers...a wonderful place to linger. Back through the house there is a tiled carport (another nice place to sit and relax) with completely different views. As part of the first floor amenities there is a full guest bath on the first floor with a '"rain" shower and glass art-deco sink.
Heading upstairs to your bedroom, you will find a Queen size bed (both the bed and mattress are new this year.) Your bedroom has a walk out covered terrace, a perfect place for sunrise and sunset, as well as a cup of coffee,or tea, or a glass of wine. Wake to the sunrise lighting the volcano with amazing colors. Watch the clouds rise from the forest floor (we are at the 2500 foot dividing line between the rain forest and cloud forest). Your view from the upstairs terrace takes in the jungle, lake and volcano. Your bath has an wonderful walk-in rain shower that blesses your body with spring water, heated by an on-demand water heater. There is a walk-in closet for your use as well.
Without even starting your car, you will be able to walk to our private waterfall, (we even have boots you can wear), walk our trail that leaves the back of our garden and goes down a big hill and into the Jungle, leading to our private small waterfall we call Walden Falls...go horseback riding and/or rent kayaks through Parrot Hill, walk to supper at a wonderful restaurant (Phoenix), hike and watch the wildlife. We have been visited by three kinds of toucans, howler monkeys white face Monkeys, as well as spider monkeys, and have our "white hawks" circling. Many birds and insects can be found when you take the time to look. Otherwise a snuggle on the terrace, catch a quiet moment of serenity, or catch up on that book you have wanted to read. The air is fresh and clean, the water is tasty, and the setting is amazing.

Our home is between the Rain forest and the cloud forest...about 2500 feet above sea level. while there a few homes visible from our terrace, everything remains so private that there is no need for curtains anywhere. We enjoy quiet and solitude, views beyond belief, birds and flowers year round. Jungle sounds lull you to sleep and a bird chorus wakes you in the morning. each day is original. You are close (about 10 minutes down the mountain) tot he small towns of El Castillo and El Minion, where there are wonderful small restaurants, a small grocery store that reminds you of an under stocked grocery store of the 50's in the US...but all the basics are there. You will find the locals to be kind and considerate, helpful when possible and needed, always smiling, always in love with their children. If you drive by the small school in the morning or around noon you may see several fathers on horseback picking up their grade school children. the population here rises early. school starts at 7, most of the adults go to work by the same time and by 4 the work day is dome. Wave and everyone will smile and wave back. Arenal lake is man made and very deep and NOT SAFE TO SWIM IN. OUr guests all receive at least 5 letters from us prior to their stay. One about Costa Rica in general, driving, money, customs, clothing etc. A second about renting a car here, a third about all the amazing things you can do within a 0-40 minute drive from your rural home. (Most are closer than that) another about where we believe are the best eating places to eat nearby, and finally a letter about how to self check in and out of your Home Exchange. you will not have to worry about crime...unless you leave your passports in an unlocked car ion a remote spot. but that is true anyplace in the world.
