Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement
We live in a beautiful old countryhouse that is built in a U-form. The garden is situated around the house, at the riverside, and in front of the house where you can enjoy the late afternoon- and evening sun. At the back of the house we have a trampoline and a couple of canoes (a bigger one is in the water).
The house is not a typical Dutch house, because it used to be three laborers houses that grew together in the last century or so. The front of the house used to be a little shop for the hamlet surrounding us, called 'Vinkenbuurt'. One of the laborers houses got so bad it was torn down and rebuilt, so that part is about 30 years old. It has a front of glass looking out on the garden and river. Lovely to have a coffee in fall or winter when the sun is shining. There is a piano as well.
The laborers that once lived here worked the land and the cattle of the big farms that are all alongside the river Gein. These farms were also the countryhouses of the wealthy salesmen from Amsterdam, who stayed in our pittoresque surroundings in summertime in the Golden Age. That is why a lot of them look so 'rich'. Walking or cycling in the neighbourhood is therefore really pleasant, but staying at home is as well.
Swimming in summer, relaxing in the garden, making a canoe-trip, sitting by a nice fire outside ór inside (fireplace): you don't even have to go to Amsterdam! And if winter is coming we ofcourse all hope for lots of freezing days, because then we can hop right from our garden onto the ice.
Our house has lots of space for a big family. If you like we get out toys for younger kids. We have lots of lego and duplo for example. The upstairs bedrooms have things to do for older ones as well: table-soccer game, pooltable, boxingbag, guitars (careful!) etc. And lots of games as well, from chess to rummikub etc.
All conditions for modern living are there, in the kitchen as well as concerning TV, wifi etc. You won't miss a thing.
We love antiques and vintage stuff, and we like some humor in our house as well. You will find funny things all over and even on a dark winters day you will find our house colourful and warm.
We have two cats. One younger one (Loekie) who loves to play and cuddle. And an old and scared one (Droppie) that you will probably not see very often. For 50 euros our cleaning lady can get the house cleaned at the end of your stay if you like.

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier
As it comes to daytrips: Ofcourse there is Amsterdam, which you can reach by car or by taking one of our bikes to the subway (Gein), Abcoude station or Weesp station (two nice villages as well). To be reached in 10-15 minutes, from there you reach Amsterdam in 15 minutes. Or you drive your car to Abcoude train station, Weesp train station or Metro station Gaasperplas. Within 30 minutes you will get from our house to the middle of town.
You can also make a bicycletrip in the surroundings, such as to Nigtevecht (fortress), Ankeveen, Loenersloot, Abcoude and Weesp (both fortresses). Muiden has a beautiful castle: Muiderslot which is great for kids. All lovey places as well
Please don't take the bikes to Amsterdam city-centre as they will be stolen or you will get crazy (traffic in Amsterdam is different from other cities, because of all the bikes.... if you're not used to it you'd better walk).
We live, as we call it here, 'aan het Gein'. Which means that we live alongside the river Gein. It is known in all the surrounding areas because of it's outstanding beauty. Piet Mondriaan has done a lot of painting here, even our house (the part that got torn down) is on one of his paintings! We are surrounded by meadows with cows and sheep, monumental farmhouses and at the end of Het Gein you will find the lovely town Abcoude. Everything you want is there: grocery, market (thursday), theatre, restaurants, fashion shops, etc. If you don't find it there you can go to Weesp, Amsterdam Sout-East (Zuidoost) or ofcourse Amsterdam itself. Our nextdoor neighbours own the old 'sunday school' across the road, which looks like a little church. It is now a painters gallery that sometimes opens for tea and homemade apple pie. On two other days of the week our neighbour (the painter) uses it for his painting classes. Our other 'neighbours'(at 100 meters) are farmers who make their own cheese that can be bought on thursdays to saturdays.
Friends who visit us tell us all the time that our house looks like a holiday home. I think they are right. It is just wonderful to live here, away from the crazyness of Amsterdam but in easy reach if we want some.

Le mot de la fin
It is in the middle of the countryside yet very close to vibrant Amsterdam.
Swimming and canoeing in summer, ice-skating in winter (with some luck).
Our house is old and full of history, just like the region we live in. There are fortresses (Weesp, Nigtevecht, Abcoude), castles (Loenersloot, Muiderslot) and ofcourse: Amsterdam!
