Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement

Our historic home was part of the Sloan Hospital, a Civil War Infirmary. It was "rolled" down the street, and added to over the years. I am an architect and have slowly created a retreat center here. There are 3 separate apartments, a conference space and art studio. The outdoor spaces are lovely with a view of the capital and Camel's Hump mountain in the distance.
I have set up my listing to have several choices for guests, who don't always need the entire house so please look for my apartment if the house is too large!
When you stay at this listing, note that this is actually the "front portion" and historic part of the house. Attached are my own living space (which holds the conference area,) and an apartment over the garage. Due to needing to maintain the property, I am usually here and do a non-reciprocal exchange for points.
If you need a bigger space, just let me know and with some planning, you could have use of the conference space and kitchen as well as the rear apartment. There would be an additional point exchange for these. Total capacity of the property is 16 adults (doubled up in separate bedrooms) plus 4-6 children sleeping on cots and pull-out beds.
We are a 10 minute walk to downtown Montpelier in the nation's smallest capital. There are quaint shops and restaurants, events, and outdoor music. The college green is 7 buildings away and terrific for kicking a ball around or having a picnic. The house is cozy in the winter and breezy in summer. I have kept the historic charm of the building while updating it with every possible modern convenience. Though many know Vermont for winter sports, there is actually more tourism during the summer and fall months due to the amazing green, rivers and lakes, and cooler climate. It is no wonder the Von Trapp family fell in love with it here! We put A/C in the bedrooms in summer, but it is rarely needed.
The neighbors are super friendly and it's a good walking street. Our community is upbeat and fun, and there are always things happening in town with children's events, the local theatre and Montpelier Alive, never mind the famous micro-breweries, hard cider, and great farm-to-table food. The neighborhood is safe and kid-friendly.
Most often I am home and have my own living space at the property. I love meeting my HomeExchange guests and have been told I'm a good tour-guide. We hope to see you soon! You may never want to leave!

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier

Montpelier, Vermont is the nation's smallest capital with a population of under 8000 people, and the city has an intimate and sophisticated feel. On this quiet walking street, you feel welcome and safe. Downtown, there are great restaurants and bars featuring farm to table foods, and local wines and beers. There are bookstores and shops, two movie theaters and a local theater company with live performances every weekend. The state capital is truly spectacular, and if you check the city calendar, there are many festivals and arts events happening year-round. We hope you'll come and stay soon!

Le mot de la fin

The views from the back of the house of the valley downtown, gold dome of the capital, church steeples, with Camel's Hump mountain in the distance at sunset are just incredible! Even though you are close to downtown, the backyard is a sanctuary.
Montpelier is so close to everything. You can be nordic skiing in less than 10 minutes on local trails, and hiking a mountain in half an hour. Burlington, Stowe, Waterbury, and Waitsfield and the Mad River Valley, are all about 35 minutes' drive. There are lots of social and outdoor events.
All of the seasons in Vermont are great. It is a wonderful place to live and to share with Home Exchangers. Vermont has become known for care of the environment and sustainable living. I am very proud to live here and feel so lucky to share with others this beautiful place.
Note: for stays of 3 or less nights there is a $100 cleaning and linen fee paid at the time of arrival.
