Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement

*We are interested in exchanges, not in Guest Points, and longer exchanges of one week or more.*

We have a large and nice apartment in the very center of Prague. It has a guestroom with a sofa bed. Large windows provide a lot of light.

You don't need a car when you live in the center of Prague. So many things are in walking distance, and if you don't feel like walking the trams will take you there within minutes.

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier

Our apartment is in the center right next to the Vltava River and walking distance in 15 minutes to Old Town. The apartment is next to the pedestrian route along the river -- north toward Stvanice Island, south towards Charles Bridge. Also very close is the river area that offers dozens of different boat tours of Prague.

Surfing in Prague? You can practice at this place, which is walking distance. https://www.vlnystvanice.cz/english/vlny-stvanice

Tram stops, buses and the metro are literally a short walk away from the apartment, and the public transit is great in that the trams run often and go everywhere. The metro stations Florenc and Namesti Republiky are a short walk from the apartment. Prague's Main Train Station is a 20 minute walk or a few minutes by tram, or by metro to Florenc.

The nearest tram stop is either Dlouha Trida or Bila Labut.

The Namesti Republiky (Republic Square, also a metro stop) is walking distance, where you will find the beautiful and amazing Obecni Dum ("Public Building). https://prague.eu/cs/objevujte/obecni-dum/
From Obecni Dum it's a short walk to Vaclavske Namesti (Wenceslas Square) which is a short walk to the Charles Bridge.

Kino Atlas, a classic old-style cinema with a good cafe/bar, is walking distance. They show films in the original language (not dubbed). Cinema https://kinoatlaspraha.cz/ and cafe https://atlasrostlin.cafe/

We are also close on the tram lines, buses and metro lines--so you can go anywhere in Prague in minutes, because we are in the center.

Supermarkets, stores, metro, tram, shopping, beer gardens, cafes are all around the apartment.

The tree-filled square of Petrske Namesti is next to the apartment, which is in the Petrske area with many things to see and do that are less touristy.

Trams and buses go in minutes to the Lesser Quarter (Mala Strana) with its own selection of attractions, museums, churches and cathedrals and other sights to see. The Prague Castle is walking distance from the Lesser Quarter, but it's also good to take the tram if you don't want to walk uphill. Trams directly to Prague Castle is about 20 minutes by tram from our apartment.

Le mot de la fin

The Lennon Wall is near the Kampa Park area in Malastrana. Trams or bus 194 goes there from our apartment. The Lennon Wall has history from communism and now it is still an interesting place where anyone can graffiti. In the Kampa park is a good cafe. One secret place near there is the "Plague Column" on Malteske Namesti. Look closely and you can see a representation of the decapitation of St. John the Baptist! Also there is the Church of Malta.

The gargoyles on St. Vitus church in the castle area are amazing, don't miss them. Notice all the decoration, because some of it is very old and some from the 20th century (on the front). On the side is an amazing gold mosaic. All around that part of the castle are churches with a lot of history.

On Vodickova street at Vaclavske Namesti (square) are two old-style movie theaters, Svetozor and Lucerna. When you go to Svetozor you can see a stained-glass window that says "Tesla." Near the window is the entrance to a park that is very nice because it's quiet and nice even though it is right in the busy city center. There is a children's play
area in the park.

Lucerna theater is in a passageway of a building with many passageways. In fact, the Lucerna building was the first building to include that classic Prague architectural style of having many passageways throughout the ground floor. I recommend walking around in there. Lucerna has a cafe/bar that looks like a movie from the 1950s or 60s, very old fashioned. In the passageway, hanging from the ceiling, is a work of art by the artist
David Cerny. It represents the statue of King Vaclav that is at the top of Vaclavske Namesti. Of course, Vaclavske Nam. is the main,
large, business square of Prague.

At Narodni Trida, the tram/metro place near us, are a lot of practical
things for you. There is a money exchange, a Tesco, the Quadrio
shopping center with fast food restaurants.

Walk through the Quadrio and in the back is a new work of art, a
kinetic sculpture of the head of Kafka by David Cerny again.
Right near the sculpture is Beas Restaurant, vegetarian Indian food,
inexpensive.

Around the corner from Narodni Trida, on Narodni street, is a famous
cafe called The Louvre. Good for brunch. In that same building is
"Rock Cafe" and a jazz club where Bill Clinton played saxophone with
Vaclav Havel in the audience.

Up the Narodni street where it meets the river is the very famous Cafe
Slavia. It has been there many years, it was there during communism
even. You can walk to Slavia in about 15 minutes.
Also on Narodni is the National Brewery with an excellent outdoor
eating area. This is very good for lunch or dinner.

At Slavia and the river is a bridge, and in the middle of the river
is a "Strelecky" island with trees and it's nice to visit. Usually
things going on there in the summer.

Continue along that bridge and on the other side of the river is Kampa
Park area, which I mentioned above. Great for walking around.
That whole other side of the river there is the "Mala Strana" (Small
Side). The main square is Malostranske Namesti

Don't forget the "Naplavka" river area on our side of the river. It is
a place to walk on the river and eat/drink on boats and at food
stands. Usually there is some live music during the summer. It's the
whole river area from the Manes Tower (looks like an onion) down to
the Vyton tram stop.

The Manes tower has history because Vaclav Havel had an apartment
across from it, and the communist secret police used to spy on him
from the tower.

One more thing, my favourite short history-architecture walk in my
area: On the river near Naplavka is some modern architecture, The
Dancing Building by Frank Gehry. Walk up the busy street from there to
a church where the World War 2 paratroopers hid after they
assassinated the Nazi leader Heidrich. You can see the bullet holes
still on the side of the church, and there is a very good (free)
memorial exhibit that you MUST visit. Then from there you can walk to
a 1000-year-old Roman rotunda, address Na Rybníčku 3. So you get two
buildings that are about 1000 years apart in age, and amazing WW2
history in between.
