Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement
I have been living in Northern California since 2004. After exploring many neighborhoods, I moved from San Francisco to the more spacious neighborhood in Lake Merritt, Oakland. My home has a beautiful Lake view. Am within 10 min walking to restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores and public transportation to San Francisco though there is much to explore in Oakland (the Brooklyn of the bay area). From here, road trips to Muir Woods, Stinson Beach, wine country (Napa/Sonoma) is within 1-2 hours. Tahoe and yosemite are longer drives 3+ hours.
My 2 BR is 1300 square feet with a great layout (2 bedrooms that are separated by 2 bathrooms). Main bedroom has a king bed, spare bedroom has an American Leather sofabed that can fit 1 adult and child comfortably. Our place is set up for 2 people to work in separate rooms comfortably for remote work or longer term exchanges. Wi-Fi is good and we have 2 desks (one stand up desk that moves up and down and one regular). The second bedroom is the second office. As an additional bonus, I have a shared patio that is wonderful for morning coffee or evening sunsets with a glass of wine. I walk and jog around the lake regularly.
My unit is part of a 4-story condo building that is gated so building access is limited to only residents or guests of the residents. There is a shared laundry room for washer/dryer on the first floor, credit card or mobile app-operated.
Prefer mutual exchange where possible, but open to guest points as well. Will ask for $150 cleaning fee if not a mutual exchange.
House rules:
The host doesn’t allow parties or smoking.
We are a no-shoe home. Please be respectful and leave shoes at the door. Feel free to bring house slippers.
Outside patio: you may want to bring flip flops or slippers to wear on the patio and there is a door there as well.
Parking spaces are all dedicated. Please do not allow people into the gated parking area.
Given covid-19, please be respectful of condo community - do not share the gate code, social distance and wear masks when doing laundry or putting out the garbage, etc.

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier
My home is in a neighborhood in Oakland called Cleveland Cascade. The area is urban but also has the beauty of Lake Merritt (hidden gem which is also a bird and wildlife sanctuary). My home has a beautiful lake view where you can walk to the parks bordering the lake, Japanese gardens, and Oakland Museum of California.
I live within a 10 minute walk to:
-coffee shops (peets, starbucks)
-restaurants, wine bars, yoga studio
-supermarkets (trader joe)
-pharmacy (walgreens, CVS)
-movie theater
-a local farmers market which is every Saturday from 9am-2pm
Within a 25-30 minute walk are other grocery stores: Safeway or Whole Foods
From my home, going to San Francisco is easy!
-10 minute walk to NL /NX bus stop which goes to downtown San Francisco
-The 19th Street oakland BART metro stop is 25 minute walk or a 15-minute uber/lyft ride from my home
(-About 30 minutes total time to SF)
-20 minute drive without traffic
San Francisco: great restaurants, Fisherman's Wharf, crookedest street in the world, golden gate bridge, museums, Chinatown, Japantown, Golden Gate Park, Golden Gate Bridge, Castro, Twin Peaks, art museums, music festivals and jazz clubs, etc.
Also exploring downtown Oakland (near 19th Street BART) has even more restaurants, bars, etc. (area is called Uptown)
To explore California, popular tourist destinations include:
-within 1-2 hours : Sausalito (Marin County), Muir woods, Stinson Beach, Monterey Bay and Aquarium, Wine country (Napa, Sonoma), etc.
-rent a car and drive to redwood forests, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite (weekend or longer trips)
-From Oakland airport or SFO airport, you can fly to Los Angeles in an hour, and other west coast cities easily (Southwest airlines, and other major airlines)

Le mot de la fin
Oakland is like the Brooklyn of NYC (manhattan), in that it is close to San Francisco, but has its own character and now trendy in terms of foodie type restaurants, the more artistic vibe of the area and the diversity it offers. Oakland is certainly worth exploring as well as Berkeley, if you have time. I assume that San Francisco is the primary focus for those interested in exchangeor the nearby sites. That is why I highlighted the proximity to SF and local transportation options from my home. Also within 1-2 hours Muir Woods, Napa/Sonoma wine country, beaches, etc. and if you want to drive further out, Tahoe and Yosemite are great family destinations!
