Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement
I hand-built my home in the jungle in windward Oahu (where Honolulu is located) 11 years ago on 9 acres of lush rain-forest in the town of Kahalu'u. Hiking around the area is a must and we are only a few miles from great beaches. When guests come to my cabin, I sleep in the small single room outside of the main cabin with a private toilet & shower. There are exits/entrances to shared spaces, so we won't be in each other's way. Since there is no wastewater treatment in the area, we use a composting toilet which I maintain. Our shower has hot/cold water and guests use our kitchen and dining area & tools, etc. I'm a "reader", so there are skads of books all around and guests can handle them all they want. I also hand-built most of the furnishings of our Kabin, so nothing looks store-bought... Know what I mean? Lots of original art on the walls and pictures of our life together, so we can tell stories until late at night, wine or not! Write to us about what you want to see here, and we'll put some ideas together. We have availability. Aloha, Kai & Paulette (phone: (808)590-3592 or email: aquaponicsoahu@gmail.com)
Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier
Kahalu'u is located 5 miles from Kaneohe, Oahu on the windward side of the island. We are a small community of 5,000 living mostly as agricultural businesses. Most lots here are 1-5 acres, our 8.5 acres is part of a 22-acre parcel owned by a local family. We are about 1 mile from the major highway circling the island and where a bus stop is located. There is a 24/7 stream next to our property, which has flooded over its banks (during winder Oct to March), no worries, our house is elevated enough. There is plenty of wildlife around (wild pigs, birds, chickens, fish, a few dogs/cats, etc.) The air is relatively EMF free (cell phone service is poor), no traffic pollution or noise, great full moons, often a fireside chat with neighbors (we burn our trash greens) and 5+ other long term neighbors (ceramics pro, aquaponic gardener, builder, and surfer or two). No loud music after 10 pm and before 8 am for guests/neighbors. Smoking on the patio outside our home or in the jungle (recycle your own butts.) Cooking is on a gas stove, electric cooker, shared small oven, sink for cleanup, all pots, dishes, etc. available.
Le mot de la fin
When our mainland friends visit Hawaii, they tell us how much they enjoy the "real" Hawaii when visiting our windward side, away from Waikiki/Honolulu (16 miles away) and in the lushness of rain-forest, taro loi (where taro is grown) all around, streams running 24/7/12 and clear moonlit nights without traffic sounds. We live on 9 acres of this lovely side of Oahu and sharing it with all our friends is a joy. Our community (Kahalu'u) is small, about 5,000, mostly agriculture lots 1-5 acres, everyone knows everyone, helps their neighbors when there's need to help. You can hike around our 9 acres and see a lot of old Hawaii. Our beaches are not crowded, clean, white sand, our reefs protect us from high waves, the moonlight hitting the ocean is gorgeous. We also have initiated relationships with experienced North and South Shore surfers who are available to assist our guests with learning various surfing skills. Come and experience with us our Hawaii. For those concerned about walk hazards, there is only one step up to our house, no stairway (unless you sleep in our loft) and no hillsides to watch out for, etc. This is country, so our driveway is a "dirt road", gated entrance, and a stream which runs wild in winter, there is a country bridge over stream, don't cross it if the stream is running "wild". You will love Hawaiian Kountry, we do! Bye the way, all the photos on our site, were taken only minutes from our place. No car, No problem...Take our BUS ($5 for all-day pass, $2.75 one way pass (adults), kids under 12 free), it goes around the island completely. ALOHA, KAI
