Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement

Our home is a spacious, cozy family home with a big and sunny garden. Perfect for a family with kids to have a nice and relaxing holiday!

We love to share our beloved house and hope you will enjoy it and its beautiful surrounding area as much as we do!

We have 4 bedrooms and a bathroom with bathtub downstairs and 2 bedrooms and another bathroom with bathtub upstairs.

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier

Our house is located in a beautiful, quiet area near the largest nature reserve in the Netherlands: De Veluwe. The woods start in the back of our garden. In a radius of only 15 minutes by bike, you will have the opportunity to spot wild boar and red deer.

There are lots of family activities close by, even in walking and biking distance. Our home is situated near the former Royal Palace 'Het Loo' (the Woods Palace', with a large French garden. Surrounding the Palace are the extensive royal hunting grounds situated, which is also open for public. As you can imagine, our kids are playing in these forests almost every day. The nature reserve has also very nice mountainbike trails, starting at 5 minutes from our home.

Within bicycle distance are also kids activities as the small theme park Julianatoren and the monkey zoo ‘Apenheul’ at 5-10 minutes by bike. The Apenheul is especially nice because the smaller monkeys are allowed to walk freely through parts of the park and sometimes come very near. We go there so often, that the third word of our boys (after 'mom' and 'dad') was 'aap' (monkey'). Also within a range of 5 minutes by bike is the 'Forest Bath', a beautiful outdoor swimming pool especially for kids between 5-15 years old.

We hope you will also love our garden with our jungle of flowers and enjoy barbecueing in the back of the garden. We will leave our 'bakfiets' (a large cargo bike which is typically used in the Netherlands for transporting the kids) at your disposal, for the real Dutch experience :)

Le mot de la fin

Apeldoorn is located in the province of Gelderland in central Netherlands, at 1 hour drive from Amsterdam. It is located at 25-30 minutes to smaller cities Amersfoort, Zwolle and Deventer, which all have beautiful old city centers. Especially Deventer is one of the olders cities in the Netherlands, with city rights dating back from the year 950.

As a municipality, the city of Apeldoorn of about 150.000. Sights like the Paleis Het Loo and the Apenheul Zoo make this a great place to visit. Especially the west part of Apeldoorn, adjacent to the nature reserve De Veluwe, has a beautiful leafy character and outstanding 1900 architecture. Also very attractive to visit by bike is the pittoresk village of Hoog Soeren, in the middle of Veluwe woods.

Paleis het Loo
Constructed in the late 1600’s, the Het Loo palace (The Woods palace) was created for King William III and Mary II of England. Until the 1960’s, the palace served as the main residence for the Royal family, the House of Orange-Nassau. With a stunning baroque design, the palace is completely symmetrical and inside features an extensive museum (the 8th most visited museum in the Netherlands). Full of authentic artefacts and remnants of the house of Orange-Nassau, the museum offers fantastic insight into the world of Dutch royalty. Currently, the Palace is being expanded with underground exposition halls. The spectacular new sections of the museum will open in 2021, hopefully in time for your family to pay a visit.

Kroondomein 'Crown domain' het Loo
Although this is part of the Het Loo Palace, the gardens and park are more than worthy of a separate entry in their own right.

Situated behind the palace and restaurant is a magnificent French style landscape garden. Inside the walls of the main garden is a series of square plantations that have beautiful hedge patterns.

Just outside the main garden is the Castle 'Het Oude Loo' been situated. This small castle still serves as an holiday home for the Royal family. The surrounding castle grounds are open for public only in April and May and hide several very pittoresque spots, like small bridges, waterfall, thee house and labyrint.

Around these caste grounds are the royal hunting grounds situated: a large, very beautiful forest which is open for public the entire year and very wortwhile exploring.

Apenheul Zoo and Berg & Bos Park
Also known as Apenheul Primate Park, this extensive sanctuary specializes in Monkeys and Apes. This ground-breaking establishment was the first in the world to allow the smaller animals to walk freely in their habitat and in-between visitors. Sometimes they get very close or want to explore handbags. Home to over 70 species of animals including 35 different primates, this zoo really stands out among other zoos.

Located in close proximity to the Het Loo palace, the park is within the grounds of the extensive Berg en Bos public park. Within this bautiful Park lays a nice water playground for the smaller kids and an extensive climbing attraction for older kids and adults:

Climbing forest Veluwe
This fantastic attraction is located in the western sector of Apeldoorn within the grounds of stadpark Berg & Bos. If you are looking for an active adventure Klimbos offers the perfect opportunity. Within the trees of the forest at Berg & Bos, you will find 8 different climbing routes and over 120 different transition stages. Ranging from heights of 2m right up to a dizzying 18m, the routes differ in difficulty and length.

Het Boschbad ('The Forest Bath') outdoor swimming pool
Right next to the Berg & Bos Park you will find the outdoor swimming pool Forest Bath. It is especially attractive for kids between an age of approximately 5 and 15 years old. It contains large swimming pools, several slides (for young and older kids), a water playground, beach volleyball court and bouncer. Other activities right next to the Forest Bath are midget golf and canoeing.

Hoge Veluwe national Park
As the largest park in the Gelderland region, Hoge Veluwe covers a vast area and is located between Apeldoorn and Arnhem. First developed in 1909 as a private estate, the area is now one of the most fascinating and varied national parks in the Netherlands.

Within the boundaries you will find three museums; the Kroller-Muller museum which is dedicated to art and features various works from Van Gogh, the Museonder museum which gives insight into the underground nature world, and the Jachthuis Sint Hubertus which served as an old hunting lodge.
Aside from the museums, you can explore the vast parkland and admire the extensive sand dunes that lie here by bike.

Theme parks
Entirely different but also a lot of fun is the Julianatoren themepark. Located only a couple of minutes by bike from our home, it is certainly worthwhile to pay a visit, especially if your kids of 3-10 years old like to 'fly' a helicopter or want to take a ride between dinosaurs.
For older kids/ teenagers, roller coaster theme park Walibi Holland is a good choice, at a driving disctance of 40 minutes from our home. The park contains over 20 different attractions and also has activities for younger kids.

City trip to Deventer by steam train & sightseeing boat
Or try another different activity: De Veluwsche steam train takes you back in time and transports you from Apeldoorn to Dieren. This delightful steam train has been restored to its former glory and has all its original fittings and a whole host of wooden panelling giving it a vintage feel. In Dieren you will have the possibility to board a sightseeing boat, which will take you to the historical citycenter of Deventer. This city is a good choice to visit a bar or restaurant or just wander around in the narrow, historical streets for some shopping.
