Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement
1929 Storybook style gingerbread house on a quiet street on the Berkeley hill with views around the Bay including the Golden Gate Bridge. We are a perfume-free house with several Hepa air filters and suited to chemically sensitive folk.
A macaw parrot does live with us tho stays with family when we are traveling.
Short term stays don't work for us so if you are seeking less than 2 weeks swaps, we aren't a fit.
Our place is charming but is delicate compared to most homes. It is suited to adults comfortable with antiques and old houses (squeaky floors, door locks that take patience...). Adults only please.
Top floor: Primary bedroom with sunset views including the Golden Gate Bridge, blackout shades, and a king sized bed with 2" organic latex mattress topper (allergy-encased) and dedicated full bath with shower. The second upstairs bedroom will be locked full of our clothes and clutter so there's closet space for you. We can set up a double bed with organic latex topper in the small bedroom off our dining room that has a bathroom en suite at your request. Otherwise this is a 3 bedroom house with only our primary bedroom ready for guests.
Street level: vaulted ceiling living room, cozy dining room, full bath with small copper tub, kitchen. There is also a small room with separate entrance and desk. The sunny kitchen has induction stovetop, Miele dishwasher, and is fully equipped. Doors open onto a kitchen deck with cafe table and frequent squirrel and bird visitors.
Lower level: Library has an old Jewett upright piano, a standing/sitting desk with 2 large computer monitors, and a cheapie elliptical machine. Laundry is in a funky basement room we aren't proud of but the machines are very nice Asko and Bosch. Laundry dries on the line fast here if you want California sunshine laundry.
Lots of wildlife interacts with us including daily squirrels, birds at the feeders, skunks, possums, raccoons, foxes (!), coyotes, and tons of deer. Multiple outdoor tables and chairs.
We are a mostly shoe-free house due to softer wood floors but it's flexible. We are a FRAGRANCE FREE, allergy-conscious household. All manner of products will be left for your use if you wish as we realize this can be an inconvenience. If you are allergic to something particular, we are happy to make arrangements to mitigate our bird or nuts or whatever would help. Please do not bring perfumes, colognes, scented laundry or hair products, or outside cleaning products into our home.
We will stow some of the clutter in the photos and can move all but a few houseplants if you prefer.
We are open to discussion on vehicle use but rental cars and public transportation are not expensive here.

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier
We are walkable to Tilden Park's 2,000 acres of hiking and wonderful walks with many views of the Golden Gate. We are in a popular area for docent-led walks and much info will be left for you about nearby botanical gardens, lakes, etc ets.
2 bus routes within 1 block walk take you 10 mins down to Downtown Berkeley BART train station which serves the entire Bay Area.
Chris commuted an hour door to door to SF Salesforce tower before Covid. That takes into account all connections and would be the similar to SF Union Square shopping district. Add a few more mins to get to the Mission District.
The Gourmet Ghetto and Solano Avenue as well as Kensington village are our closest restaurant/shopping streets. North Berkeley and Downtown Berkeley BART are our nearest train stops. Downtown is slightly closer. 4 farmers markets and the most amazing produce markets are nearby.
The weather from the Pacific blows thru the Golden Gate and directly onto our hill so we enjoy terrific air quality. In the foggy seasons it burns off around noon. We are enough of a hill that electric bicycles / scooters are required for average bicyclists. Winters are very mild here but locals know to always have a sweater and warm socks.
Yosemite is 3.5 hours away, Tahoe is 4 hours away, Napa and Sonoma wine countries are an hour from here. Santa Cruz is 1.5 hours away. Gold country 2.5ish hours away... Los Angeles is available via local Amtrak train station...

Le mot de la fin
We are interested in most non-USA destinations for 3-8 week trips. Especially UK / Europe
If you wish to be hosted for a short stay that could be fun. We could swap visits perhaps.
Longer stays preferred as there is loads of prep to make our place ready for you. This is an adults only situation please. If you will have a guest or two we do have additional bed options that can be arranged ~ just let us know!
