Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement
Please note Our family will be renting our home for a year from Nov 2024-Jan26 and will resume our Home Exchanges after that.
Our home is a romantic beachy retreat for people who want an easier, simpler pace. The house is a quirky character cottage, with all day sun and an orchard. If the fruit is ripe, pick it! We live in what Kiwis call a 'bach' - essentially a rustic, humble dwelling a quick stroll from the beach - that oozes charm and relaxation. You can drape yourself over a sofa with a gin, hang in the egg chair in the garden and listen to the birdsong, or on the inside egg chair and let your eyes settle over the trees and rooftops. Our home is all about relaaaaaaxing.
We offer a comfortable, friendly home for you to use as a base while you use the explore the amazing Kāpiti coast.
The beach access is 6 houses away. Wellington city is a 45 min train ride away or a 30 min drive (outside peak times). Our wee house is perfect for trainspotters, musos, small families and those looking for a charming and creative place to retreat and enjoy life's simple pleasures.
We have a covered deck, and a wood BBQ/chiminea for outside entertaining.
Sometimes a steam train chugs past - a real thrill for kids.
We have a no-mow garden that is amping with life - a real paradise for skinks and gecko, bees and birds.
It's cinema paradiso! We have unlimited high speed wifi, and we screen movies and TV through a projector in our home cinema which is also good for gaming.
We have a new building project kicking off in the new year, so the grounds around the house have piles of wood and some tradesfolks around.
If those aesthetics are ok for you, then all good :)

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier
We live in paradise - one street (6 houses) from a vast sandy beach, 5 mins stroll to a cute cafe, deli, dairy, fruit shop, gallery, bar and the train.
We live in an extraordinary part of the world. Paekākāriki is filled with poets, artists, musicians, gardeners and changemakers. The locals are incredibly friendly, the cafes serve delicious coffee and food, and the village people will readily share their table and their opinions with you. It is a humble village with a huge heart.
The beach is either calm and blissful or stormy and moody. People fish, paddleboard, run, walk and swim all year long. You can get up with the 'Mermaids' for a dip at 7.30 all through the year or sleep in and slope off for a coffee and danish at 9ish before tackling the Escarpment track. Definitely attempt the Fly by Wire walk (there’s a surprise at the end of the track!). The boat trip to the Kāpiti island sanctuary is a must-do.
The train is a feature of the house and village so if you are light sleepers - you might want to consider bringing ear plugs.

Le mot de la fin
We will be heading to CHCH and will be finding a 12 month lease for our house. We can’t do it all on GP but we could maybe do a rental GP/split. Get in touch if you are looking for a long stay. :)
There is one queen bed with an Ecosa mattress.
The children's room has a loft and a single pull out bed with a double sofabed in an adjoining second room (we note this sleeping arrangement might not work for everyone).
This works well as a family room too. It is also our "home theatre".
We have a timer on our internet (which you can override) which turns it off at 11pm-7am
No parties or loud music after 10.30 - as we have a young family on one side and an older person on the other. We love our neighbours so please respect them.
No smokers inside. If you wish to smoke, please do it away from the house (its a 1907 tinderbox) and wet all butts before disposing in the rubbish bin.
