Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement
We have a three story single family home in the Edgewood section of Cranston, RI.
On the first floor there is a kitchen, a dining room, a living room, an office and a bathroom; the office has a day couch that comfortably sleeps one person. The living room, dining room and kitchen are open layout. The dining room table comfortably seats 6 people but can accomodate up to 10 when needed. There is an upright piano at one end of the living room.
On the second floor there are two bedrooms with queen size beds (one of which has a tv with Roku), a separate tv room, a laundry room (with washer, dryer and a second refrigerator) and a bathroom.
The third floor has a bedroom with a double bed and a library/extra room. You have to walk through the library/extra room to enter the bedroom. The library/extra room currently has a large train track and victorian village in the middle of the room; we plan to put it in storage but it's still up as of March, 2024.
We also have a small but comfortable Coleman camping cot with a mattress available in the basement as an extra bed if needed. The basement is mainly for storage but we have a small exercise room with a tv, an exercise bike and a sliding bench exerciser (similar to the Chuck Norris Total Gym).
The first two floors have steam heat (which we love in the winter) and several individual room air-conditioners. The third floor has a mini-split for heat and airconditioning.
There are desktop computers on the first and third floors and strong WiFi throughout the house.
The front of the house has a large wrap-around porch with four rocking chairs and a table (from Spring through Fall we use it regularly to drink afternoon tea while reading or to drink wine in the early evening). The rear of the house has a deck with a gas grill, a clay chiminea and a table with chairs for four.
There is a shady back yard, a rope swing (for weights up to 120 pounds) and a tree-house. Now that our children are grown and have moved away, we may remove the tree house in the future but it's still here as of now. We also have several perennial gardens, one of which has two adironack chairs for reading and relaxing.
Our driveway has space for two additional cars and there is additional parking space available on a grass strip alongside our yard.

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier
We live in a quiet residential area of Cranston, RI. Rhode Island is a small state (everything is within a 50 minute drive of our house) with wonderful beaches, bike paths, and hikes (54% of Rhode Island is forested). We even have a small ski resort (larger ones are in Massachusetts 75 minutes away and New Hampshire 3 hours away). In the Fall, the foliage is gorgeous. There are great (and varied) restaurants throughout the state, many of them on the water as Rhode Island has 400 miles of coastline.
We are two blocks from Narragansett Bay, and a 15 minute walk to Roger Williams Park (a 427 acre park with hiking trails, botanical gardens, a carousel, the third oldest zoo in the United States, a small Museum of Natural History and Planetarium, small Japanese gardens, a playground accessible for handicapped children, and boat rentals). We go for long walks several times a week in the park and often ride our bikes there during warm weather. Historic Pawtuxet Village with numerous restaurants and shops is less than 2 miles from us. There is a Farmer's Market from May through October in Pawtuxet Village and there are two grocery stores 2 miles from us.
We're a 10 minute drive or bus ride to downtown Providence, RI. CNN Travel ranked Providence the #2 town to visit in the USA in 2024, stressing it's art, design, architecture and culinary scene (https://www.cnn.com/travel/providence-rhode-island-best-towns-america). Conde Nast Traveller magazine recently called Providence the "new cultural hub of New England" and the hippest city in New England (https://www.cntraveler.com/story/where-to-eat-stay-and-play-in-providence-ri ). It is home to Waterfire (see waterfire.org), the Rhode Island School of Design art museum, Brown University, Providence College and Johnson and Wales University. It also is well known for its restaurants, theater and live music. The New York Times said “Providence has exceptional food, compelling art and architecture, and an inordinate number of smart people. Yet the city remains unpretentious and affordable”. In 2012 it was voted the #1 food city in the United States by the readers of Travel + Leisure magazine.
Our house is a 45 minute drive to Newport, RI, home to six of the mansions filmed in the TV series The Gilded Age (you can tour most of them) and the Cliff Walk (a 3.5 mile paved walking path with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and numerous Newport Mansions on the other -- http://www.cliffwalk.com/ ).
We're a 45-60 minute drive to numerous Rhode Island beaches. Block Island is a 30-60 ferry ride from Point Judith, RI (and Point Judith is a 45 minute drive from our house).
Rhode Island has 8 rail-trail bike paths, all within a 40 minute drive of our house; we have two adult bikes with helmets and a bike carrier available. There are also dozens of wooded and forested hiking trails in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts - we have several books that detail hikes in the region.
We’re a 2 hour drive to the Berkshire mountains in Massachusetts, home to Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony. The White Mountains of New Hampshire are 3 hours north of us and are great for skiing in the winter, hiking from Spring to Fall, and leaf-peeping in the Fall.
We’re a 60 minute drive to Boston, MA, a 1 ½ hour drive to Cape Cod, and a 3 hour drive to New York City. We're a 5 minute walk from a bus line to Providence and Providence has bus and train stations that can easily take you to Boston, Cape Cod, New York and Washington DC. We're a 15 minute drive from T.F. Green International Airport.

Le mot de la fin
We have a Pack 'N Play (crib/playpen) available for use by guests. We also have two adult hybrid bikes, adult bike helmets and a removable bike rack in our garage.
We do not have cable tv. We do get over 20 channels from Providence and Boston through an over-the-air antenna. We also have Netflix, Amazon and HBO subscriptions year round (and Apple+, Disney, Hulu, Paramount and Acorn TV occasionally - we usually subscribe to them for a only month or two at a time). The TV in the TV room is a smart TV with access to the internet.
We have many jigsaw puzzles, from 100 pieces to 1000 pieces; we also have several board games. On the third floor we have a large collection of children's books.
