**We will be moving house this year, so can’t host any exchanges until we know when this will be**
We live in a lovely traditional Cornish cottage built in 1864 in Helston close to the beautiful Cornish coastline. If you're up for a rural retreat Cornwall is the most magical place and Helston is a perfect base for exploring the area. Ideal for couples. The house is not suitable for babies or young children, but there is a single bed in the spare room for another adult or older child/teenager.
Helston is a small town in South West Cornwall. There are plenty of amenities in the town, with a few nice pubs and places to eat including a new arts centre called 'CAST' on our street with a lovely cafe, but the best restaurants and pubs are a five minute drive away in the fishing village of Porthleven. We are a short drive (5-10 minutes) from the nearest beaches and perfectly situated to explore the South West Cornish coastline. This part of Cornwall is such a special place, with tiny fishing coves, a beautiful coastline, untouched countryside and secret local spots where you can escape the tourists! There is a thriving surfing scene in Cornwall, including Porthleven which has a world-famous reef break. Helston itself is very much a working Cornish town with mainly local people living here, it's away from the tourist trail, which is the reason why we love it. Whilst it is lovely in Summer here, we really love Winter in Cornwall too; think windy walks on deserted beaches followed by a pint by the fire in a cosy pub!
Best way to get here is to fly into Bristol or London and hire a car and drive down (3 hours from Bristol Airport, 5-6 hours from London Heathrow), but there are good direct trains and you can fly London to Newquay. We are also only 1.5 hours from the Roscoff ferry from France. We are a 5 minute walk from the nearest bus stop and although you can just about manage on public transport, a car is the best way to see all the best parts of Cornwall!

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier
Our cottage is tucked away in a secluded spot in the centre of the town; close to supermarkets, cafes, bakeries (selling traditional Cornish pasties) and plenty of pubs (including The Blue Anchor; one of Cornwall's oldest pubs where they still brew their own Spingo Ale). We do tend to drive outside of Helston to eat out; Cornwall has an amazing food scene, with restaurants serving local produce and fresh seafood, we're also famous for our traditional Cornish Cream Teas, pasties and fish & chips and the best places to eat out are only a short drive away in Porthleven, Falmouth, Penzance and St Ives. Helston is a good base for exploring West Cornwall; but we spend a lot of time in Porthleven (5 minutes drive), Penzance, Falmouth, St Ives (world famous for it's art scene), the Lizard Peninsula (the UK's most southerly point) and the dramatic coastline of West Penwith - all stunning places to visit and all about 30 minute drive away. There is a tiny cinema in Helston, which is an experience if you're used to a big cinema complex! We spend most of our time walking the coastline with our Lakeland Terrier Margot and wild swimming. There are lots of places to learn to surf or take a paddle board out onto the ocean.
We live the simple life in our house; we have a lovely living space downstairs with a wood burner where we spend most of our evenings reading or listening to vinyl and we don't have a television (so bring a laptop if you want to watch films etc). We have good wifi.
There is on-street parking, but during weekdays you'll need to park a few minutes walk away from the house.
Helston is a working Cornish town, with local people who live and work in the area, so much of Cornwall now is becoming a haven for second-home owners and tourists and lots of what you see in tourism media is not the real Cornwall! We are close to our neighbours, but we live on a friendly street and it's generally quiet and peaceful here.

Le mot de la fin
We love our house and really look after it, we will treat your house with the same respect. I grew up doing house swaps with my family, so we are well used to house swaps and will make sure we look after your home. We have a little dog here (she doesn't malt and we have no doggy smell!), she will be in dog sitting during swaps, well-behaved dogs are welcome in the house. We have a housekeeper who cleans on a Tuesday morning and can clean whilst you're here if you like.
The house is not suitable for younger guests, so no babies or young children please, but, there is a single bed in the spare room suitable for another adult or older child/teenager. We are gradually renovating our cottage ourselves, it's still a little rustic in places, but we think it's part of it's charm!
