Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement
We have recently shifted to New Delhi for a few years because of work. We live in a duplex (ground floor and first floor) close to Delhi‘s Diplomatic Enclave and not far from the airport. Adjacent to our house and our shady private terrace there is a large common garden with lots of trees and benches. Right next to this garden there is a community outdoor swimming pool which guests may use (only when we are in town, together with us and at a fee of around 4 Euros per person). Being a mega-city there is lots of traffic in Delhi day and night but our house has double-glassed windows protecting us well against the noise from traffic, the cold in winter and the poor air. Our house is equipped with A/Cs, portable oil radiators and air purifiers. We have an excellent reverse osmosis water filter enabling us to drink water straight from the water filter tap. We have hot-water geysers in the bathrooms, mosquito screens in front of our windows, a generator for occasional power cuts and a 24 hour security watchman.
Hiring a taxi or an Uber in Delhi is no problem. Taking the metro (next station is 15 easy walking from our house) is a possibility and short distances can we covered with an auto rickshaw/tuc tuc. (Taking local buses is however not advisable for visiting tourists.)
We have a cleaning lady which can assist you in the house. She will clean the house before and after your visit. She can also assist you in the kitchen and wash your fruits and vegetables or hang your laundry. However she only speaks Hindi (and does not write it) and neither speaks or reads and writes English but you can communicate with her through google translate and the audio / listening function in Hindi. We have a security guard that can buy basic food items from the near-by market place or assist you in booking a taxi.
Our home is equipped with many toys, books and films for all age groups and we have a soccer table. We have a dining room table that converts into a billiard table and can be used as a ping pong table when we are there. We have plenty of outdoor equipment such as balls, badminton racquets, frisbees and children‘s bikes for recreation in the garden.
Smoking is not allowed inside the house and we do not host any pets.
Our home may be a good base for your travels in India and it is definitely a place of „soft landing“ in the hustle and bustle of „incredible India“. You may want to fly in to Delhi from abroad, rest up for a few days and then travel the country. You are welcome to also keep some of your luggage here and then return again later to rest up before your onward journey or return flight home. We appreciate if guests stay a minimum of 3 nights in total. If you only stay for 2 nights we ask for extra guestpoints. We don’t ever host guests for 1 night only.
We are ready to host guests when we are away but also when we are in Delhi since we have plenty of beds and space for you (and your suitcases) if you are ready to share one of our bathrooms, our living room and dining room table and if you do not mind us going about with school, work and our regular routines during the week.
One can definitely eat breakfast together then (as well as other meals if you would like that) but we would then ask for a small contribution from your side to the food costs or that you share in on restaurant delivery orders done together.
Homeexchange is definitely not a “business” but more of a “feeling like family” thing for us. It is a way of travel that really suits our lifestyle since we truly enjoy meeting new people as well as entertaining guests -be it old friends or complete strangers- but it is always nice when both sides contribute. Only then does it make the experience rewarding and memorable for the guest and the host.

It takes about 15-20 minutes to reach the airport by car. Our home is in a small and clean gated neighbourhood called West End Colony which is next to Anand Niketan and Shanti Niketan which is the closest residential neighbourhood next to Delhi’s Diplomatic Enclave, hosting almost all of India’s embassies. Visitors are actually asked at the gate who and what house number they are going to, so the neighbourhood is really very safe. There is a small shop offering milk, joghurt and bread about 5 minutes walk away and a fruit and vegetable vendor around the corner in the mornings. You may also send our security guard on his bike to fetch a few items from a near by market or place an online order of groceries (with him paying online and you reimbursing him in cash in Rupies). Groceries are normally delivered to the house within a few hours. Essential staples up to 12 kilos can be ordered in the same way and are delivered to the doorstep within 30 minutes. The closest super market is in Anand Niketan (about 20 minutes walk). Domino‘s Pizza delivers within a few minutes since it is just a few blocks away and one can pay cash in Rupies. It is very advisable to buy a short term Indian SIM card for your phone at the airport since you can then download the food delivery app Zomato and the shopping app blinkit as well as order an Uber. All orders require an OTP Password which is only sent to local numbers.
Our place is quiet and peaceful and the greenery around is quite relaxing and therefore a good place to rest after sightseeing in Delhi or simply to recuperate after a long journey or before a long onward trip to discover India or a long flight back home.

We unfortunately do not have the time to do travel research and are actually hardly qualified or experienced enough in taking trains and buses through out the country. We can certainly recommend some travel agents and tour guide companies that we have heard from and that are recommended among the expat community but in the end our guests will have to research and make their own plans and arrangements.
