Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement
Welcome to our home!
We are the proud owners of a charming duplex in the centre of the historical city of Roskilde. Friends and family who visit us often comment on the ambiance of the house, which in our opinion is the very essence of “Hygge” - the Scandinavian term for a cosy, warm atmosphere.
The house is a two-story, classic danish Mason’s villa from the 1920’s.The first floor consists of two big, bright bedrooms with high ceilings and a bathroom with heated floors and a rainfall shower. On the ground floor, you will find the kitchen, dining room and living room (with access to the garden), and in the cellar there is another bedroom and bathroom. There is plenty of space for 6 people to sleep in the house (beds in children’s room fold out to double beds) and we also have an extra bed (not fold-out) available if you travel in a bigger group.
There's space in the garden for both playing and relaxing. In the summer, we put up the trampoline and take out the garden toys and the hammock chairs. On the large patio you will find the dining table, sun loungers and a barbecue.
Our house is generally funished in typical Scandinavian, modern style. The dining room and living room are connected by French doors and both have high ceilings.
The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need, and we will make sure to stock the fridge with Danish treats for you before leaving!
The children's rooms are equipped for children from around 10-15 years, including gymnastics rings, drawing/arts table, relaxation/reading area (bean bag chairs), games, Lego, fidget toys etc.
The laundry room is in the basement with a new washer and dryer at your disposal.
There are 3 adult bikes (2 for women, 1 for men) and a bike in the size of a 12-year old (about 160 cm). All bikes are well functioning and you are welcome to use our helmets. We will give you the contact information for a bike rental agency if you need to rent additional bikes. Denmark is a fantastic country for biking, so don't miss out on this form of transportation while you are here! You can even bring the bike on the train to Copenhagen if you want to take a bike tour in our beautiful capital.
The house is semi-detached (twin house) but you will most likely not even meet or hear our neighbours (we rarely do) as they enter on the other side of the building and the house is very well constructed.
Car exchange is preferable for us (we have a Mitsubishi Space Star 1.2), and there are lots of interesting places to visit by car in our surroundings.
We have had ten amazing exchanges in the past 12 years. Due to Covid-19, we took a break from exchanging, and in the mean time, we have moved to our current (and more spacious) home where we have had an exchange with a Canadian family in the summer of 2023 and welcomed a lovely american couple with Guest Points in april 2024.
For our previous exchanges, we have written a thorough folder (in English and French) with lots of tips for good restaurants, excursions and interesting sights, as well as a collection of leaflets and brochures from the tourism agency that will be waiting here when you arrive.
We will do everything in our power to ensure that you have a fantastic time in Denmark!
We look forward to welcoming you in our home!

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier
Our house is nestled in a quiet street in Roskilde, the ancient city of Vikings. Roskilde has 50.000 inhabitants and we are lucky to have a rich cultural heritage as well as beautiful nature, great shopping and many activities for all ages.
Roskilde is situated 30 kilometers west of Copenhagen, the Capital of Denmark, and the train to central Copenhagen is 5 minutes by bike or 15-20 minutes’ walk from our house. There are lots of train departures around the clock with Copenhagen Central station just 25-30 minutes away by direct train (depending on the time tables). Copenhagen is a vibrant and very clean city with many historical sights, theatres, museums, concert halls, events and fantastic food. Among the numerous great attractions, we personally love the Tivoli Gardens (one of the world’s oldest amusement parks), The Little Mermaid at the seaside, the Royal Castle of Amalienborg, the Opera House; the Design Centre, Nyhavn and many more. See more at http://www.visitcopenhagen.com/
In the city of Roskilde, you'll find plenty of shops, restaurants and cafés as well as the ancient UNESCO heritage cathedral, all at 15 minutes' walk from the house. We live literally 1 minute’s walk from the closest supermarket, and there is a pizzeria at the end of our street, so you will not go hungry!
The fjord leading out to the sea is a 10 minute bike ride from the house, and the surrounding nature and forest is very lovely. If you go a bit further by car (20 minutes) you will reach the beautiful sand beaches in Køge.
From Copenhagen airport, a direct train will take you to the central station in about 20 minutes where you can switch to the train to Roskilde, so you can expect to get here from the airport in about an hour and a half using public transportation or about 40 minutes by taxi.
In Roskilde, there are lots of attractions both for families, retired citizens and couples. By the fjord, you will find the Viking ship museum with ancient ships, and you can even go sailing in one, should you have the courage! In the nearby area of Lejre you will find the Land of Legends, a great family day trip (10 minutes’ drive). From Roskilde, it's about an hour by train to get to Odense where you can see the home of Hans Christian Andersen, the famous storyteller and writer.
If you have kids, Legoland is 2 1/2 hours away by car and is definitely worth a visit.
We also strongly recommend a trip to beautiful Malmö in Sweden - less than an hour away (either by car or train).
If you want to see Hamlet's castle of Kronborg in Helsingør (50 minutes away), it is possible to combine this with a 20 minute ferryboat trip to the lovely Swedish city of Helsingborg. It's even possible to combine a stay in our home with a few day's trip to Oslo, Norway with the overnight ferry from Copenhagen. Germany is also just a few hours away by car.
If you bring children, we will of course provide you with lots of more tips about local playgrounds, public swimming pools, amusement parks and family friendly restaurants.

Le mot de la fin
For your information, some of the reviews of our past exchanges are written when we lived in our old house (the last two ones are from our new house). The interior and exterior of the homes are actually quite similar, but before, we had an upstairs neighbour, whereas our current home is only attached to the neighbour on one side and it built so that we have much more privacy. The new house is much bigger than the old one but a bit further from the train station (however still within walking/biking distance).
