Oceanside home
We typically do not Home exchange during the summer months that being mid June through mid September. No guest points exchanges during that time.
So unless you have something on our wish list of travel destinations. We would probably not be interested.
But we are Interested in Costa Rica, Scotland, Ireland, possibly locations near our national parks here in the US.
House available with a 5 day minimum.
Located on a secluded oceanfront acre. Open concept with ocean views from almost every window. Furnished large wraparound deck with water views, great for outdoor dining or having a lobster boil. Walk to waters edge or your private dock and watch the osprey and bald eagles overhead, or the occasional seal. Try fishing for stripers swimming beneath our 20’ dock off our 40 foot private pier.
Private stony beach (most of Maine does not have sandy beaches but it’s a nice area to swim if you’re brave enough for the cold Atlantic water.). 2 double kayaks and 1 single kayak plus yard games.
Perennial gardens.
Across the road is Little River Dam, the start of a spectacular 2+ mile surfside loop walk. There are several restaurants within a couple of minutes, and Boothbay Harbor is approximately eight minutes away. East Boothbay is considered the quieter part of town with beautiful ocean views, and a bit less hectic than the harbor.
Bedroom 1: Queen Bed with Roku TV
Bedroom 2: Full Bed Bedroom 3: 2 single Beds
Bedroom 3: (2) twin beds
Roku TV in Great Room
Bathroom 2 full bath
The house does not have air-conditioning, but it is really not needed where the house is located. We are on a peninsula out on a peninsula, practically surrounded by cool north Atlantic water.
And in the summer the breeze is almost always off the water, cooling the nights down nicely.
We also have window fans available.
Pet friendly home with ample room.
We have a strict no smoking policy on the property.
There is a maximum of 6 guests allowed at the house. Any additional guest needs to be approved by owner even if they are not staying overnight.
We also need your pet information when you make your reservation like what breed of dog they are and their weight.
There are two external cameras- one in the driveway and one by the water. Neither can look into the house.
The house may not be suitable for small children as there is obviously water hazards on the property as well as a fairly high deck wrapping around the house, which does not have childproof railings, so they could fall. Please consider this when looking at the house for an exchange.

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier
Salty Acre is a home located on “Little River,” a deep, salt water inlet.
The house is on a private, dead end road, so there is minimal traffic. It is an open concept, three bedroom, one and a half bath with a very large, wraparound deck, completely furnished and updated. You will have water views from almost every window in the house. There is a small private stone beach if you’d like to cool off with a dip on a hot day. Relax or fish from a a 10 x 20’ dock. Boothbay Harbor is about an 8 minute drive.
Things to do
SHOP ON THE MAIN STREET
The waterfront area of Boothbay Harbor is a great place for a stroll or to watch the boats come in. Shops and restaurants line Commercial Street. My favorite place for a cup of coffee is Red Cup Coffeehouse. Kids (big and small) love the vintage toy section at Sherman’s Maine Coast Book Shop.
GET A CONE AT DOWNEAST ICE CREAM FACTORY
Downeast Ice Cream Factory is my favorite scoop shop in town. It has been serving up 65+ flavors of handmade super premium ice cream for 43 years. I love their Moosetracks, but let’s face it, it’s all so good!
MAINE STATE AQUARIUM
Operated by the Maine Dept of Marine Resources, the Maine State Aquarium fosters an appreciation for local species and conservation. While it’s small, it is still very worth a visit. Kids love the touch tank and you will learn a lot about the Maine lobster.
DAY TRIP TO MONHEGAN ISLAND
One of my favorite Maine adventures is taking the ferry out to Monhegan Island. While this artist mecca is only about ten miles off the coast, it feels like you are a world away with its wild, rocky and rugged scenes. It also has a number a shops and a restaurant or two plus a number of hiking trails for one of a kind views.
Balmy Days II cruise, Boothbay Harbor. The ferry usually leaves (make reservations) at 9:30 AM and returns at 4:15 PM. While that seems like a lot of time, the boat ride is 1.5 hours each way which only gives you about 3-3/4 hours on the Island. It’s a great day trip!
TAKE A PUFFIN TOUR
See firsthand the National Audubon Society’s success in re-establishing a puffin colony on Eastern Egg Rock on a Cap’n Fish’s Cruise.
The trip is narrated by the National Audubon’s Project Puffin, so you get the history of puffins and the Eastern Egg Rock restoration directly from people involved with the project.
This 2.5 hour cruise will also take you past three lighthouses on the way!
BURNT ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE
The Burnt Island Lighthouse was built in 1821, making it the second oldest surviving lighthouse in Maine. Approximately one mile from Boothbay Harbor, Burnt Island can only be accessed by boat or kayak. Kayaks can be rented from Tidal Transit. Balmy Day Cruises offers a “living history” tour of the lighthouse. Actors dressed in period clothes, tell you about their daily tasks and what it was really like to be caretakers of this historic treasure. After a scenic 15 minute boat ride, you will have 2.5 hours to explore the island. While on the island, visitors can climb the spiral stairs up into the lantern-room, tour the buildings, and visit the covered-walkway museum. Or pack a lunch and enjoy island life!
CABBAGE ISLAND CLAMBAKE
Take the Bennie Alice from Pier 6 in Boothbay Harbor to Cabbage Island, a quintessential Maine experience. The Moore family hosts guests 7 days a week from mid-June through Labor Day. There you will enjoy a traditional Downeast clambake cooked on the water’s edge. This is the number 1 rated attraction on TripAdvisor. This is a very special place for us as we had our wedding reception here on the island. Reservations a MUST!!!!!
COASTAL MAINE BOTANICAL GARDENS
The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is such a gem, as it always rates as one of the best gardens in the country! Open year round, it even offers an amazing winter holiday lights tour called Gardens Aglow. This is definitely a must see when in the area. It has the most amazing children’s garden you will ever see. Throughout, you will find sculptures and activities inspired by famous children’s books written by local authors.
Don’t miss (you can’t) the giant trolls “hidden” in the woods. Both kids and adults have fun finding all six of these whimsical trolls, composed of recycled wood.
BOOTHBAY CRAFT BREWERY
Thirsty? The best way to end a day at the gardens is to sit beneath the shade of a huge flowering chestnut tree, sipping a craft beer while eating a farm to table meal.
The Boothbay Craft Brewery is family friendly and dog friendly. There are outdoor games to play and be sure to sneak inside and look for the hidden speakeasy door.
Boothbay Lobster Wharf
the freshest lobster around
This is a working lobster pier where you can taste the best that the region has to offer. Watch the lobstermen unload their day’s catch. The Wharf serves the freshest of seafood and you can even pick out your own lobster! Also served are fried seafood, burgers, hot dogs, wraps, delicious salads topped with chicken, or blackened salmon. Add to this a drink from their full bar and you are sure to have an enjoyable time. Best of all, they have BUCK A SHUCK OYSTERS ! Yes,$1 dollar oysters every Friday & Saturday starting at 4:30. Enjoy fresh oysters and cocktails/beer while listening to a band and watching the sun set on the harbor. One of our favorite things to do!
Boothbay Region Land Trust Hikes
Boothbay Region Land Trust (BRLT) is a nationally accredited, nonprofit land conservation organization with the mission to conserve for the public benefit the natural habitat, scenic beauty and working land of the Boothbay region. They have over 20 amazing trails and paths to enjoy throughout the area, many are on the water or offer water views. BRLT trails are open to the public, year-round, free of charge. Properties include woodlands, wetlands, salt marshes, islands, seabird and wading bird habitat, feeding areas for migratory birds and butterflies, historical and archaeological sites, and working waterfront. Our favorite hike is the Porter Preserve.
DOLPHIN MINI GOLF
Play a round of mini golf, have ice cream and hit up the arcade. Have some good old-fashioned fun at Dolphin Mini Golf. Look for the land-based lighthouse.
BOOTHBAY RAILWAY VILLAGE -Train Rides
Step back in time and see how life in Maine used to be. Walk through the village made up of historic structures as well as a vintage automobile museum. Kids will get a kick out of riding in an antique coach behind a 100 year old locomotive. Train rides depart on the hour from 11-4 PM Tuesday- Sunday.

Le mot de la fin
We are traditionally not city folks. Typically, we will only spend a day or two in the major cities, just to hit the highlights. We much prefer exchanges in the country, rural areas or beach/lake areas, as we are nature lovers
Always open to exchanges near our US national parks, particularly Yellowstone, Yosemite and Glacier, but we are open to any national park. We love the outdoors.
We are also wine enthusiast, so if your home is in a wine region and you’re looking for an exchange, please let us know.
