Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement

Please note: this is our full-time home, so we need to arrange exchanges well in advance. Thanks!

Enjoy a spacious, art-filled single-floor 1,620-square-foot layout with abundant natural light, securely fenced yard, majestic tall trees, and landscaping that screens it naturally and tastefully for privacy from neighboring houses.

Inside, you'll enter through an airy sunroom/garden room with tile floor, cathedral ceiling and the perfect table and chairs for afternoon tea.

Pass through the double door to the main living area through a vestibule that we've converted into a charming replica of a traditional English pub, complete with dartboard.

The kitchen is a cook's dream, with ample granite countertops and stylish tile backsplash, as well as wood laminate flooring (new in 2022), dishwasher, built-in microwave, air fryer, and new (2023) electric range and refrigerator. Make use of professional-quality knives and every kitchen tool a home chef might need. A breakfast bar completes the kitchen's open design and looks out into a spacious living room.

There you'll find a recliner with a well-lit reading corner, and a comfortable sofa facing an entertainment center that includes a 50-inch smart HD TV, sound bar and DVD player. A french door opens from the living room to a recently refinished wooden deck that's well-screened for privacy and is perfect for a meal al fresco or reclining on a warm day.

Got some remote work to do or a hobby project? No problem! Behind a securely closing door off the living room is a 6 foot-by-10 foot home office space with wall-to wall carpeting and a 10-foot-long continuous desktop, with a printer/copier.

Get a restful sleep in either of two bedrooms: one with a queen-size high-quality Murphy bed (half-bathroom accessible just outside down the hall), and the other with a single bed, total light-blocking shade system and full bath en suite.

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier

Papke Court is a quiet, little-traveled cul de sac lane with only three homes on it -- yet it's within the city of Eureka, on a bus route, and only 5 minutes' drive from anywhere in town.

Our neighborhood, called Sequoia Park, is near the city park of the same name and its major attractions: giant redwood trees -- best viewable from the amazing Redwood Skywalk; and the small but charming Sequoia Park Zoo, where you can see the new bear habitat as well as red pandas, otters, and pettable farm animals. (All the animals are orphans/rescues and would not survive in the wild).

Day-to-day shopping is a snap, with a Safeway supermarket and Walgreens drugstore right nearby, as well as the Henderson Center commercial district that has interesting restaurants, shops and an authentic 1950s-style Fresh Freeze ice cream stand.

Le mot de la fin

Eureka and Humboldt County, California, are magical places. A little out of the way, but that’s part of the reason we’ve got a lot to offer! So much has been preserved!

To get here by car, travel US 101 north from Santa Rosa (only 3+ hours) or CA-299 west from Redding (3 hours). Many visitors choose the Eureka/Arcata Airport (ACV), an easy-to-use, full-service airport.

Every year, thousands of visitors come to our county to hike and relax, bike and marvel at the redwoods, kayak and canoe the clear waters, walk on the beach or shop on Main Street.

Once here, you can choose from so many destinations. We've created an expansive Visitors’ Guide for you, but below we wanted to give you a sneak peek at some of our favorites.

1. Eureka Waterfront: Walk around Old Town Eureka and enjoy shops, cafés, and gelato before heading north along the beautiful Humboldt Bay. The range of this trail is ever-expanding and should be accessible all the way to Arcata by mid-2024.

2. Woodley Island, Eureka, CA: This nautical island is just minutes away. Take in a sunset behind the masts and sails of this charming marina. Fishermen sell fish right off of their boats here. A walk around the island takes only about 30 minutes, but there is so much to see—Humboldt Bay, Eureka Waterfront, and The Fisherman, a larger-than-life bronze memorial honoring the fishermen who have lived and died here. Don’t feel like cooking? The Café Marina and Woodley’s Bar serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day.

3. Morris Graves Museum of Art, Eureka, CA: Our biggest and best art museum featuring seven galleries, a courtyard sculpture garden, museum store, and performance rotunda. Just one of many art-lovers’ destinations in a city rich with theater, dance, music, and artists’ studios.

4. Klopp Lake and Arcata Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary, Arcata, CA: This 307-acre sanctuary includes freshwater marshes, salt marsh, tidal sloughs, grassy uplands, mudflats, brackish marsh, five miles of walking and biking paths and an Interpretive Center. A bird lover’s paradise.

5. Hammond Trail, Arcata and McKinleyville, CA: This five-plus mile hiking/biking/equestrian component of the California Coastal Trail stretches from the Arcata Bottoms northward to Clam Beach County Park Views of the Pacific Ocean along the way are breathtaking!

6. Trinidad, CA: Enjoy this picturesque seaside town with beaches, trails (including the one up and around Trinidad Head), and charming shops and cafés.

7. Humboldt Lagoons State Park: Only 30 minutes north of Eureka, this park includes Big Lagoon, Stone Lagoon, and Freshwater Lagoon, as well as Dry Lagoon, which is now a marsh, bordered by dunes, forests, prairies, and coastal scrub. It’s not unusual to see herds of the magnificent Roosevelt Elk.

8. Humboldt Botanical Gardens, Eureka, CA: Just south of town, take in the lush 44.5 acres of natural and native gardens. Our area’s climate, which is on the edge between two worlds–Mediterranean and the Pacific Marine, allows for very diverse groups of plants to thrive.

9. Ferndale, CA: Don’t miss this restored and authentic Victorian town just south of Eureka. Shops, The Old Steeple music venue, cafés, bakeries, plus architectural walks and hiking trails. Our favorite: The Golden Gait Mercantile . It isn’t exaggerating when it dubs itself America's favorite general store, offering old-timey, hard-to-find products and gourmet foods.

10. Table Bluff trails, Loleta, CA: Hiking and walking trails, breathtaking vistas and bluffs, Pacific Ocean access, and one of the best locations for whale watching!

11. Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge, Loleta, CA: The coastal habitats conserved at Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge are some of the most beautiful and biologically rich places in the world. In additional to year-round birds, the refuge rocks during both migration seasons.

12. Van Duzen County Park, Carlotta, CA: Great for picnicking, camping, hiking, fishing, and swimming in the Van Duzen River. Enjoy beautiful virgin redwood groves, up close and personal.
