Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement
Newly designed ADU in charming area of South Pasadena
Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier
Madison Heights has seen its share of history — and history-making residents. Its first planned subdivision, “Madison Avenue Heights,” opened in July 1906 and consisted of 63 lots. Between 1910 and 1917, the neighborhood grew, and stylish single-family houses began cropping up along the gridded, residential streets, thanks to many notable architects who put roots down there, including Henry and Charles Greene, Arthur and Alfred Heineman and Wallace Neff.
In the 1930s, Albert Einstein and his wife occupied a Saltbox home on South Oakland Avenue and decades later, President Barack Obama rented an apartment in a complex on Glenarm Street while he was a student at Occidental College.
Today this central Pasadena neighborhood is home to residents who appreciate its historic architecture, its suburban charm and its location conveniently close to shopping, dining and access to the rest of Los Angeles County.
"Madison Heights is the quintessential, charming, older homes neighborhood. You can find so many beautiful homes in a wide variety of styles, It’s also very centrally located and accessible.
In Southern California, where ranch, Craftsman and Spanish-style homes often reign supreme, Madison Heights is one of the few neighborhoods offering single-family homes in many architectural styles. Lining the residential streets, you’ll find Colonial Revivals with clapboard siding, and gabled roofs; whimsical English Tudor Revivals with steeply pitched roofs and large front-facing windows; and even a few carefully restored 1800s-era homes.
Houses sit back on their lots, allowing for roomy front lawns,. Backyards are often large enough for an ADU or a pool. Tall, mature trees are abundant, lining the streets and dotting front and back yards, making the subdivisions green and lush. Wide, flat sidewalks are abundant, too, adding to curb appeal and providing space for an afternoon stroll.
Residents flock to Central Park in nearby Old Town Pasadena for fresh air and exercise. This nine-acre green space boasts a large ADA-accessible playground for kids and lots of open fields dotted with pockets of shade from tall trees, perfect for a game of tag or simply relaxing on a blanket with a good book. A paved trail loops throughout the park, and picnic tables are available for a lunch alfresco with friends.
If you're in the mood to go lawn bowling or play croquet, there are two dedicated greens where you can do just that, thanks to the Pasadena Lawn Bowling and Croquet Club. Join the club to get access to the on-site clubhouse and play whenever your fancy strikes. If you want to play pickleball, head to Allendale Park, off South Marengo Avenue, and join the Pasadena Pickleball Group, which regularly plays there on the park's four courts.
For shopping, you’ll have quick access to the dozens of popular national retailers lining Colorado Boulevard in Old Town Pasadena. You'll also find Target, where you can pick up everyday essentials. Along Historic Route 66, you’ll have your choice among Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s for groceries, and you can find other popular retailers like CVS and Petco that will help you cross everything off your to-do list.
If you’re in the mood to dine out, Madison Heights is home to several well-loved local spots that residents from all over the city patronize. The Raymond, serving the neighborhood since 1886, first as a hotel and then as a restaurant, is an institution not just for its down-to-earth, unfussy food but also its atmosphere, which is charmingly old-fashioned and cozy. Along with its dishes like sea bass, ribeye and pasta Bolognese, it offers an extensive menu of wines and signature cocktails.
Night owls love Lucky Boy, one of the few Pasadena restaurants open until midnight. Head in after an evening out and indulge in one of their burgers or breakfast burritos, which they serve all day.
Thanks to the historic Arroyo Seco Parkway, which runs through the neighborhood, you’ll have easy access to CA-110, which will take you to downtown Los Angeles. The nearby I-210 and SR-134 freeways will take you anywhere else you might want to go.
