Laniakea, is a unique, contemporary designed, thatch, glass and screed floor bush lodge that simply breathes homeliness. It is located on the Crocodile River in the Mjejane Private Game Reserve which is incorporated into the Greater Kruger National Park of South Africa. Our classic lodge sits above a river inhabited by crocodiles and hippos, and is surrounded by 4,000 hectares of bush veld, which is the home to the Big 5, all savanna biome antelope and ungulates, and over 340 birds in this game dense area.
Laniakes is a home away from home for the avid African wildlife, bird and and big 5 lover. It a self catering lodge that sleeps eight in four stand alone double en-suite bedrooms linked together by a decked walkway.
This is the home of an artist and writer who are both qualified wildlife nature guides. The lodge is unique by typical South African standards. It was designed from the learnings of Botswana bush lodges, with double ring beams to facilitate natural cooling throughout. Its sleeping and living areas are separate, yet connected by open deck walkways. Each bedroom is stand alone en-suite to enhance a sense of privacy when bedtime beckons. Whilst the lodge living, cooking, eating, swimming and relaxing areas are all integrated so that no one ever feels alone. Every space is designed to combine privacy and intimacy in living, together with the appreciation of the Crocodile River and the vast expanse of the Kruger bush veld, that flows for as far as the eye can see.
You don't have to leave the lodge. Bird and big five viewing with crocs and hippos are a constant to view from the deck of the lodge.
Mjejane Reserve is not a self drive area. Game drives can be arranged at an additional cost, These game drives are typically 3 hours long in an open safari vehicle with professional guide, in the mornings and/or in the afternoons.
Walking, jogging and mountain bike cycling in the bush is available in a designated area populated by non dangerous wild animals.

The Mjejane Private Game Reserve has been incorporated into the southern border of Kruger National Park in the eastern area of South Africa and is 50 kms from the borders of both Mozambique and eSwatini.
KMIA, (Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport) is 80 kms from our home. Car hire is available and the drive takes about 1 hour from the airport to our lodge.

"Laniakea" is in the Mjejane Private Game Reserve. There is an entry fee of R60 per person per night, the SIUC (security, infrastructure and usage contribution ) which each guest entering the Reserve will be asked to pay.
A Road levy of R350 per vehicle is requested when entering the Reserve.
These costs will be paid by card, directly to the Reserve when entering the main Mjejane Reserve entrance.
No self drive is allowed at Mjejane. Game drives can be arranged in an OSV (open safari vehicle) Game drives are R1800 per 3 hour drive, the vehicle seats 9 guests, and guided by a FGASA accredited game guide.
Should you require game drives I will arrange and invoice you directly. Game drives run in early mornings and late afternoons when the animals are most active.
Laniakea is within the Mjejane Private Game Reserve, the Big 5 are present in the Reserve and all Reserve rules and regulations must be adhered to.
NO drones are allowed to be flown. This is in the interested of the wildlife.
Binoculars and cameras are reccommeded.
A cleaning fee of R400 per day is additional. This fee is to cover the cost of cleaning the house daily.
In addition to our bush lodge in Kruger National Park we own a beach home in St James/Kalk Bay, Cape Town. They are three hours apart by flight and car commute.
We have a son and grandchildren in UK. So we are interested to swop homes to visit family in London and/or take them on holiday in Europe. We are people who love beach and mountains and village life for holidays. We are not averse to city life too for music, arts, food and culture experiences. Typically we would be keen on swops for a month to three months, though we could do longer exchanges if the foreign locations resonate with us.
