Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement

Our quaint townhouse is in a very central residential area of Montpellier.
The private room is a large area which includes a mezzanine with 1 double queen-size bed on the second floor and 2 single beds on the first floor in the study (1 normal single bed and 1 extra trundler bed which pulls out underneath).
There is an ensuite bathroom.
The kitchen opens out onto a small courtyard which is very pleasant for dining in the long summer evenings. The house is well equipped (dishwasher, washing machine, high-speed Internet, stove/oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, aircon). We have lived here for 25 years and love the area. We have put a lot of time and effort into making our home special. We had major interior renovations done several years ago, plus mosquito netting fitted on all of the windows, so the house inside is insect free! A tram (tramline n° 3) just around the corner provides transport all over the city (direct to train station, indirect to airport and beach, with shuttle buses).

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier

Transport without a car is very easy from our house as there is a tramway station just around the corner. 4 tramway lines make getting around the city very easy. We are on Tramway line n° 3 (just four stops direct from central train station). Just get off at the "Arceaux" stop and walk a short stretch up the hill, then turn left (about 3 mins). It is also a pleasant 25-minute walk to the main square of Montpellier "place de la Comedie". Our street is quiet and we know all of the surrounding neighbours well. There is a park at the end of the street which children like. One of our favourite Saturday morning activities is popping down (5 minute walk) to the Arceaux outdoor food market. I use my bike to get around the city and for going to work. Montpellier is a young city (~60 000 students) and many French people would like to live here in the south because of the pleasant climate and easy access to beaches (20-minute drive or tram+bus trip) or the country (1-hour drive to the Cevennes). Montpellier is just 3hrs 20mins to Paris and 2hrs 50 mins to Barcelona by fast (TGV) train and there are direct flights all year round to various French cities (Ajaccio, Bastia, Brest, Caen, Lille, Nantes, Paris-CDG, Paris-Orly, Rennes, Strasbourg) and also international destinations (Algiers, Oran, Seville, Rome, Luxemburg, Casablanca, Fes, Marrakesh, Nador, Oujda, Tangiers, Amsterdam, London-Gatwick, Basel-Mulhouse, Tunis) and during specific months (Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Minorca, Palma Minorca, Athens, Heraklion, Rotterdam, Lisbon, London-Luton, Istanbul).

- Croissants & bread: the closest is Scholler (8 mins) walk up the road. Also down the hill, in the Arceaux area, around 10mins.
- Buzzy restaurants/cafés: Sens Six (close to our home, 10min walk up the street), Sensible (vegetarian restaurant), Comptoir Naturo (vegan options), Ikonka (café-restaurant, outdoor seating only), Darunee (Thai street food).
- Bars: Brasserie Les Salins (just a 10min walk down the hill), Le Dôme (typical atmosphere)
- Cozy cafés: Du côté du Peyrou (run by Flora, from Peru, at Arceaux market on Tuesdays/Saturdays), Chic et Bohème (brocante/café), Hôtel du Palais (great breakfasts and you don't need to stay in the hotel to go there), Latitude…
- Tourism: The old city centre in Montpellier
- Bit of culture: Musée Fabre, Pavillon Populaire, La Panacée, lots of festivals in July
- Seaside: You can reach the sea with tram 3 and a shuttle in the summer season
- Spot of exercise: There are lots of swimming pools in Montpellier
- Day tripping: Saint-Guilhem le Désert, Sète, Cévennes, Nîmes, Arles, Avignon…

Le mot de la fin

My home was transferred on to HomeExchange from a previous platform (LoveHomeSwap) and only a couple of many reviews were added on here. I have been synchronously exchanging my home since 2011 (with homes in New Zealand (1 swap), Australia (1 swap), France (1 swap), Spain (2 swaps) and the Netherlands (2 swaps)), and with Guestpoints (3 swaps in Spain), so far. I'm looking forward to more adventures on HomeExchange!
