Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement
Cape Cod waterfront sanctuary...
Our house is set back 100 yards from a quiet street and has 130 feet of private waterfront on Town Cove.
We have 2 decks. One runs the 60-foot length of the house on the upper level and the second is outside of the queen bedroom on the lower level.
Sip your cappuccino (of course there is an espresso machine) or wine on the upper deck while looking at lovely Town Cove. The eastern 16 feet of the deck is screened so you can eat al fresco in the evening with no bugs.
You enter the house into the second floor great room. One corner of the room is the kitchen, another the dining area, and the balance is a very comfortable living room.
This layout is perfect for a family vacation because the flow favors interaction and conversation. Our kitchen is set-up for real cooking. We have high-end pots and pans, lovely serving platters and bowls, every gadget from a stand mixer to a Cuisinart. Ask us for details.
On the top floor is a large master bedroom and a bathroom.
The lower level has a bedroom with a queen bed and a sliding door to the outside and lower deck. Also on the lower level is a large bedroom with 2 single beds and a trundle bed. This is where most of our guests have their kids sleep.
Between the two bedrooms is a sitting area with fold-out futon that sleeps two, as well as a second TV.
If you are looking for a quiet home for a family, or two-family vacation, you could not find a more charming place.
Our water front is not a sandy beach because all of Town Cove is ecologically protected so the beach has sea grass. Morning dips are delicious. Rinse off in the outdoor shower, then get a cup of coffee. If you buy a license you can harvest clams right here.
We have the house professionally cleaned before each guest. We ask our guests to reimburse us the $150.
We provide linens. If you wash them before you leave they are complimentary. If our maid needs to wash them there is a $100 fee.

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier
Our house is a 15-minute walk to the center of Orleans.
Orleans has two main beaches: Nauset which opens to the sea and Skaket, which opens to Cape Cod Bay. Both are breathtaking. Skaket is the beach for little kids--no waves and only knee-deep even 20 yards out. This is also where locals come to watch the sunset.
Cape Cod is famous for "kettle ponds:" clear fresh water ponds that were formed by glaciers. Several of these ponds are very nearby: Crystal Lake is about 5 minutes away, and there are several ponds in Nickerson State Park about 10 minutes away. The Orleans Conservation Trust has cut magically beautiful trails through the woods, waterfronts and wetlands all around Orleans.
As you drive out onto the Cape Orleans is the last 12-month town. There are three supermarkets, many restaurants, and excellent little family owned stores including several homemade ice cream parlors, excellent bakeries, an excellent health food store and a couple of very good liquor stores.
The Cape Cod Rail Trail, a paved bike path on the defunct railroad right-of-way, that connects Hyannis to Provincetown, runs through Orleans. The bike trail is a gem that connects beaches, towns, kettle ponds, parks and woods. Google it to get a good understanding. There are bike rental establishments where Rail Trail passes through Orleans. Also at this spot is the Chocolate Sparrow. Grab a coffee or iced drink here, get a panini, or pastry or chocolates made on site.
If you come to our house we will tell you the best places to get a lobster roll and which parlors have the best ice cream.
Cape Cod is at once wild and magical. When you come here you will understand why some families have vacationed here for generations.
It’s two hours from Boston and five from NYC. Cape Air and Jet Blue fly into Hyannis, so you don’t even have to drive here.

Le mot de la fin
Orleans has a great deal of history.
The western terminus of the first transatlantic cable was here. A fascinating museum about the cable is 1/2 mile from the house.
A few miles from the house is First Encounter Beach, which is where the Pilgrims first landed and met the indigenous people.
Most of the waterfront along the Atlantic side of the Cape is protected National Sea Shore. The result is that Cape Cod, while a famous summer destination, retains its wild aspect. There are no multistory hotels or resorts on Cape Cod. The architecture is old New England and homes sit on large lots on quiet tree-lined roads.
The crowds are largest between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and in those months we rent our house by the week. But the irony is that September and October are the bests months to visit. The water is at its warmest; the crowds are gone; and the fishing is at its best.
Opportunities to view wildlife abound. The beaches are frequented by seals. The wetlands hold a huge variety of birds and, just inland, the woods and fields hold entirely different kinds of birds. Whale watching from Provincetown is a special treat. The tours are led by oceanographers who know the whales, and their entire family lines, on sight. I've been splashed when a 40-foot whale breached next to the whale-watching boat I was on.
