Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement
Our home (Papa Bear) is quiet, comfortable and open. It’s located in a serene setting, just a short two-mile drive from downtown Highlands. It’s a lovely blend of old and new, with easy access and parking. It features an open-concept living area (kitchen, dining room, living room), a fully-equipped kitchen, two bedrooms with king-sized beds, two baths, and W&D. Or access the outdoors from our home via the screened porch or the deck/patio.
We find it very peaceful here and typically with very moderate temperatures. Our property is surrounded by rhododendrons, mountain laurel and trees. It’s the perfect setting for bird, deer…and an occasional bear or two - watching. Wander the property to enjoy its many flowers and unique plants, the vegetable garden, the firepit and the lily pad and frog-filled pond with a small stream (normally has water but not always).
Our property is shared by an additional 2 rental cottages (Mama Bear and Baby Bear). The cottages share the driveway only, each with designated parking. No other spaces are shared.
Firewood fees apply.

In our opinion, Western North Carolina is one of the most beautiful areas of our country, with numerous State Parks, historic sites and fun adventures for the entire family.
And nestled within western NC is Highlands, a mountain respite for over a century. Highlands is one of the highest towns east of the Mississippi River, with an elevation of 4,118 feet. It's also located in one of the few temperate rainforests in North America.
There are beautiful waterfalls to see, and many of them require little walking to enjoy, like Dry Falls (you can walk behind it!) or Bridal Veil Falls. Others require a little hiking, like Glen Falls, Ranger Falls, Silver Run Falls, and more!
Nearby hiking includes Sunset Rock, a 1/2-mile walk to the top for beautiful sunset views seen over the town while you sit on slabs of granite and the adjacent Highlands Botanical Gardens has garden paths for strolling.
If you like boating, there are boat rentals at the marina on Lake Glenville, or kayaking on Lake Sequoyah. A great outing for the entire family!
In addition to all its outdoor activities, Highlands boasts many wonderful restaurants, fabulous shopping, and a great cultural arts scene. Highlands offers plenty of art galleries, antique stores, and boutiques. Five of its restaurants have been awarded the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.
Less outdoors and more culture? Highlands has professional summer stock theater at the Highlands Playhouse, the Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music concerts, and more! The Bascom's Visual Arts Center always has a wonderful show.
Fly fish for trout with local guides on many rivers in the area, or golf at one of the many private courses in the area, or at the Sky Valley Resort and Country Club public course.
Highlands has it all! If you’re looking for a place that feels like home without the normal stresses, we invite you to come to unwind and relax.
