Our holiday home in Lahinch is our happy place. It’s greatest feature is its proximity to the charming village of Lahinch and its mile-long, sandy beachfront – both a two-minute walk away. This makes life easy – whether it’s popping down to pick up some groceries, takeaway food or enjoying a drink or grub in one of the village’s pubs and restaurants.
The house is modern and spacious. It has both a walled, private garden, which is ideal for children to play barefoot on, or for enjoying a coffee in the morning, as well as a large private garden that we share with six other holiday homes in the courtyard. Inside, the house has a lovely fireplace and an open-plan living room and kitchen that opens out onto the garden.

Lahinch is a great spot to base yourself for exploring Clare’s coastline, which includes the stunning Cliffs of Moher, Ireland’s most popular landmark (5 miles away); the Burren, a moonlike landscape which inspired J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings (20 miles away); Ennistymon, a gorgeous market town (2 miles away); Doolin, home of traditional music in Ireland (10 miles away); and the Aran Islands, a visit to one of the islands is like stepping back in time (30 minutes by ferry from Doolin).
Lahinch is internationally known for two pursuits: Lahinch Golf Course, Phil Mickelson’s favourite golf course, which was designed by British Open winner Old Tom Morris in the nineteenth century and later modified by Alister Mackenzie, the architect of Augusta National; and surfing, along its vast beach, and on “Aileen’s”, one of the most famous waves in the world, which lies a few miles down the coast by the Cliffs of Moher.
If golf or surfing aren’t your bag, there’s lots more to do in the vicinity, including beach walks; glorious sea swimming in various swimming “holes”, or in Lahinch’s swimming pool; hiking and walking in the magnificent Burren or along cliff walks by the Cliffs of Moher or Loop Head Peninsula; river kayaking; and traipsing underground in the Aillwee Caves, which are over a million years old.
The village of Lahinch has several legendary pubs, including Tom Frawley’s, which dates back to 1860; Kenny’s, which is renowned around Ireland for its live music; and The Nineteenth, a golfer’s haven. It also has excellent restaurants, including the unrivalled Dodi’s for breakfast; an award-winning bakery; and delicious takeaway fish & chips.
Lahinch is 3 hours drive from Dublin Airport and 45 minutes drive from Shannon Airport. Regarding public transport, you can get from Dublin Airport to Lahinch via train and/or bus (e.g. 3.5 hours via bus from Dublin Airport to Ennis + 40-minute bus ride from Ennis to Lahinch). From Shannon Airport, it is 20 minutes by bus from the airport to Ennis + 40 minutes by bus from Ennis to Lahinch.
