Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement

Our charming home was built in the early 1940’s to house local railroad workers and returned WW2 Veterans. If you get a moment, you can take a walk around the neighborhood. You’ll notice that almost all of the houses on our block have the same footprint and facade (if somewhat mirrored). They all have the same story. They were all built to house those men and women who kept this country moving post war. Good on ‘em. That being said, there's not one room in the house we haven't renovated. So don't expect it to feel over 70 years old. It looks and feels contemporary. Our basement living space feels like a NYC loft. We removed the floating ceiling in the main living space, stained the joists, and used external/industrial wiring tubes and fixtures. We did that because I'm 6'3" and my wife's 5'10" and we wanted to feel comfortable walking around downstairs. The open joists really do the trick!

Our house has three bedrooms (one with a queen, the other two with doubles), two full bathrooms (one with shower and bath, the other just with shower), a nice entry living space, a full kitchen (with dishwasher, oven, stove, microwave, fridge), a surround sound media room (TV, amp, PS4), super reliable 1gb wifi (mesh throughout the house), AC, central heat, and a full laundry (washer and dryer). The downstairs bathroom is great, with an enclosed shower that's both strong and relaxing (turn the lights off and shower down there - feels like you're in a sensory deprivation shower. So soothing. And hot!).

We also have a large enclosed backyard (low fences, so if you've got active/large pets, they'll probably need to be tethered), a garage (you'll have space for 1 vehicle), a parking pad at back, two bicycles, and a couple of snow sleds (not the powered kind, just the sliding kind).

It's a great house. We've owned it now for almost almost 13 years, and have only just started to travel again and offer it up on Home Exchange. We're excited to share it with other home owners!

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier

Our house is in Seward, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Minneapolis. Now, it's one of the coolest places to live and visit in the Twin Cities. You’ll love it.

Here's what lies from within 3 to 25 minutes walk:

EATING / DRINKING

East along 25th street one block and you'll find a great brunch style restaurant called Darling, a hari salon, a yoga studio, and all the alternative therapies you'll need.

Head west along 25th St about 3 blocks and you’ll find Cafe Racer. Great south-american inspired “food-truck-style” meals.

Head north (up 31st) (and a little west) about 4 blocks and you’ll hit Franklin Ave. Check out the Seward CoOp for groceries, Curry in a Hurry for…well curry, Code Blu for coffee, Zipps for your drinks, Sober Fish for asian food, A Bar Of Their Own for typical bar food and televised women's sports (hence the name) and Pizza Luce for pizza. There’s also some african-style grocery stores and cafes that are awesome.

Head south about 5 blocks (down 31st) and you’ll hit East Lake Street. East Lake has it all. Head to Milkweed or Dogwood for coffee. Or take your pick from Merlin’s, HiLo, The Himalayan Restaurant (Nepalese/Indian), Sonora Grill (Mexican fusion), Longfellow Grill, The Bungalow Club, Midori’s Floating World (Japanese), or any one of the smaller mexican-style eateries for some great food. If you need a vegetarian fix, there's also a totally plant-based, traditional burger joint called Francis. The Longfellow Market is also a great local grocery store where you’ll find everything you need. And if you like the golden arches, you’ll find them right on the corner of 31st and East Lake.

THINGS TO DO

This is a great city full of things to do. And many of the most simple pleasures are just around the corner.

BIKING & WALKING THE MISSISSIPPI & THE GREENWAY

Head East on either 25th or 26th street and you’ll hit the big river. There’s an amazing bike/walking path along both sides, and if you look for the entries, you’ll find hiking trails that will take you right down to the beaches. The Greenway is a trail that runs along an old abandoned train line. It connects to so many more trails in the cities. You can access it by heading south on 30th or 29th ave, or by heading south along the river trail.

There’s some bikes in our garage for you (keep reading) but if you’d prefer electric help, you’ll find electric bikes and scooters all over town.

MINNEAPOLIS PARKS

There are two great parks within walking distance. Both are awesome for different reasons. Matthews Park to the north west has playgrounds, splash pad, soccer fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, community center, sledding hill (winter), and free ice skating and hockey rink (winter). To the south east you’ll find Brackett Field Park. It has playgrounds, splash pad, soccer fields, basketball courts, skate park, exercise equipment, and a community center.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

If you don’t have a car, then Bus Routes 7,9 and 21 are walking distance and will take you where you need to go. The Light Rail is also not far away. You’ll find the Blue Line if you travel west on Franklin Ave. The blue line will take you north into Minneapolis downtown, or south towards the airport and the Mall of America.

GOT A CAR? HIT THE ROAD.

We’re super close to the two main roads that connect and dissect the twin cities - the 94 and the 35W. You can access both really easily from our house, and once on them, they shoot you wherever you need to go.

Le mot de la fin

If we're doing a booking for GP, we will ask that you agree to pay a cleaning fee.

Why you might ask? Fair question.

With a three bedroom, two bathroom house, it takes some time to clean and re-set. Stripping, cleaning & drying 3 bed's worth of linens, cleaning and drying 6 people's worth of towels, and generally cleaning, vacuuming, sweeping a 3 bedroom, two-story home takes time. It's a two person job and takes around 3 hours. We move in and out of the country quite regularly, spending time in Mexico and Australia. To help us cover the costs of our travels, we also list our house as a short term rental. So we can't guarantee we'll be at home to do the clean and turn ourselves (and we're not very good at it anyway!). So we employ someone to do it for us. They charge us obviously. So we ask that anyone staying at the property help us cover that charge.

We also want our relationship to be as smooth and friendly as possible. And your experience at our house to be enjoyable and totally stress free. Cleaning and/or talking about cleaning can be such a drag. So we're getting it all covered here. Hopefully avoiding any surprises.
