Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement
We regularly see wildlife such as wallabies, bandicoots, orange-footed scrubfowl, bush turkeys, kookaburras, sunbirds, ulysses butterflies, and tawny frogmouths in our garden. There’s a seasonal storm creek adjacent the veranda and it’s great fun to watch in a downpour.
My wife is an excellent cook and I love gadgets, so I’m confident the kitchen will have everything you need. Please ask if there’s utensil you’re after!
We’ve lived here for 18 months and are slowly settling in. It’s a 1991 brick home with a garden out front and a patio/veranda at the back. We’ve renovated a little and have also upgraded the airconditioners since the photos were taken. We keep it as clean and tidy as we can with two young kids. We’ve got a spare room with a double bed, so open to discussing hosting visitors for points short-term while we’re in the home. Nothing fancy but might help someone out. We’ve got camping bunkbeds and foam mattresses for visiting friends so don’t hesitate to discuss your needs.
FTI when we’re here, we have two guinea pigs who stay in a cage in the laundry at night. I’m happy to put them into an off-site boarding kennel while we’re away, but equally happy if you feel like looking after them. Just mentioning in case their presence may affect someone’s allergies. But the house and cage is thoroughly cleaned weekly.
We also compost all food waste that the guinea pigs don’t eat.

Every day is punctuated by the distant horn of the Kuranda Scenic Rail at Freshwater Train Station about 0845 in the morning and signalling its return journey in the evening, and the faint school bells in between on weekdays.
Freshwater is on the side of Mount Whitfield in a quiet suburban street surrounded by rainforest and looking onto the Barron River delta.
There is no through-road. The neighbours are very friendly. The kids walk to and from school. Two decent playgrounds are a safe 500m walk.
We live adjacent two UNESCO World Heritage Areas: The Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics.
But there are so many things to do in our neighbourhood before we even mention the international playground of Cairns and far north Queensland.
The cycle network will take you everywhere.
We have kayaks which we use to paddle down the local creek.
For a quick diversion with the kids, we might cycle down to race the train, pat the horses, play in Freshwater Creek, go for a coffee and browse in Limberlost Garden Centre, chat to neighbours out for a walk, stop at the playground, forage wild mangoes, starfruit, papaya, and coconut, and grab a bottle of milk on the way home. All within 1.5km.
To show proximity, here are some exact distances by road: international airport 9km; Cairns CBD 11km; nearest beach 8km; two large supermarkets and mall 5km; nearest coffee shop, cornerstore, bakery, and restaurant 1.5km; number 121 bus stops to city or Redlynch 600m; train station to Kuranda or city 1.6km; and there are several more top notch pubs, bars, shops, coffee houses, and restaurants within 3.5km.

There’s an old Laser sailing dinghy ready to be lowered onto the roof rack to go to Lake Tinaroo or one of the beaches, subject to proving you have the skills to stay upright!
