Welcome to our wonderful holiday retreat overlooking the stunning vistas of one of Tasmania’s best-kept secrets, Sloping Main Reserve in Frederick Henry Bay on the Tasman Peninsula. We call our retreat Urunga House, which means "long white sandy beach" in the Aboriginal language. It is 3.5 km in length, featuring squeaky white sand and crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming, kayaking, cycling or simply taking a walk along the beautiful beach. Here, you will find plenty of birdlife and nature walks to Lime Bay Reserve.
Our house is newly renovated with floor-to-ceiling double-glazed windows that command a stunning view of the bay from both the lounge/kitchen and master bedroom. Sometimes, you can even enjoy the pleasure of seeing dolphins swim by to give us a fabulous show or two.
The modern kitchen comes equipped with all the amenities one could need to cook up a feast, including a coffee machine for those who enjoy freshly roasted Tasmanian coffee beans. Our kitchen has ample space for cooking and entertaining, while your friends and family can sit out on the deck, relaxing and taking in the sounds of the waves gently lapping the shore, all while enjoying the magnificent scenery. Keep an eye out for sea eagles and dolphins if the sea is calm.
There are three bedrooms in total, thoughtfully decorated with books scattered here and there for you to choose from during those quiet early evenings snuggled up in bed. Two of the bedrooms accommodate couples, while the third is a children's room with a bunk bed for two sleepy heads.
The house features one lovely modern bathroom with a toilet and an additional toilet with a basin in the hall. A hairdryer and essential toiletries are supplied, along with a washing machine.
For entertainment, there's a smart TV, a Bluetooth speaker, and a great variety of games to play. The house is equipped with air conditioning and heating.
A cot and high chair are available upon request. We also have bicycles and fun toys for the beach.
A cleaning fee of $150 paid is required if you prefer not to clean up after your lovely, relaxing stay with us. All this can be discussed upon your request to stay with us, along with anything else we can assist you with. Please don’t hesitate to ask.

Sloping Main Beach is 88 km from Hobart Airport and 104 km from the Hobart CBD. Sorell township, with the closest large supermarket, is 10 km from the airport on the way to the Tasman Peninsula.
There are many attractions along the way to our little paradise, such as the Dunalley Bay Distillery on the canal, which offers tastings and serves delicious local fish and chips. It is situated just before the bridge, right on the canal.
If you feel like a nice lunch and a drop of Tasmanian wine, there are wonderful award-winning wineries such as Bangor outside Dunalley and Bream Creek Winery, with a short detour to the coast that has the most magnificent views of Marion Bay.
Before you reach Eagle Hawk Neck, swing by for the breathtaking view of Eagle Hawk Neck, where you might even find a coffee van serving the best coffee on the peninsula—I can guarantee it!
There are other sights to see nearby, but you might want to leave that for another day, as you are only 32 km from Urunga House now. The township of Taranna, some 5 km beyond Eagle Hawk Neck, has the Tasmanian Devil Park and the Chocolate Factory.
I would recommend heading straight to Sloping Main at this point for that peace and tranquility and saving the rest of your touring for other days on your peninsula escape.
The Port Arthur Historic Site, for example, is very popular with tourists and is 30 km away, while the coal mines are just a 10-minute drive from Urunga House. If you’re feeling very energetic, you can organize in advance to walk the famous Three Capes Track, which is a 48 km fully guided four-day, three-night adventure covering the breathtaking scenery of southern Tasmania taking in Cape Hauy, Cape Raoul, and Cape Pillar, some scenery that you will never forget.
If you're interested in walks, there are many to choose from, with plenty of information available online.
Pennicott Wilderness Cruises leave from Port Arthur and offer whale-watching tours and trips to Tasman Island—a day certainly not to be missed!
Another lovely little vineyard to visit is just outside the seaside town of Nubeena, called Premaydena Wines, one of our favorites for sure.
