Location
Close to Las Canteras beach we have a very centrally-located, 2-bedroom apartment on the top floor of a 6-floor block with rooftop views over the city towards the harbour. It’s in a quiet, pedestrian-only street. Santa Catalina Bus Station is only an 8 minute walk. From there, you can access many parts of the island, including frequent express service to the airport, which is only 30 minutes away.

The top floor location captures lots of light from the often clear-blue sky, and we have a full length terrace where you can take breakfast or relax in the morning sunshine in relative privacy. The apartment is our second home for 6 months of the year, so it’s more of a home than a holiday let and has everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Home Features
We refurbished it in 2021. Highlights are the new open-plan kitchen with wide granite worktop for easy entertaining, a lovely bathroom with walk-in shower; and a carefully designed, self-watering “vertical garden” of colourful and quirky cacti and succulents which we’ve set up at one end of the terrace to give the outside space more of a “garden” feel.

We have 2 good-sized bedrooms each with a large (200cm x 150cm / 78.7" x 59") double bed,; a washing machine in the exterior lean-to where beach chairs and a large parasol are also kept; a large smart TV and fast fibre internet; and also a desk and comfortable office chair for remote working.

Local Amenities
We’re a 4-minute walk from the 3km-long Las Canteras Beach, one of the best urban beaches in Europe. It’s protected by a natural reef about 50 metres from the shoreline, and has fine sand, clear waters, tall palm trees and a wide promenade lined with cafes, restaurants, and bars. In the other direction we’re 8 minutes walk from the bus & coach station, plus a large, modern shopping centre, El Muelle.

Nearby Highlights
The nearby beach is glorious in the evening as you can watch the sunset from the promenade or from one of the rooftop bars. The city is friendly and cosmopolitan, with a wide choice of bars and restaurants, and it also has its unexpected touches such as the tables of chess and dominoes set out in the nearby Parque Santa Catalina where anyone is welcome to join the locals for a game. Due to the mild and sunny climate here, it's a very healthy, outdoor life. Also every February to March, Las Palmas holds its annual Carnival and everyone dresses up and parties!

Historic Centre & Rest of Island
Further afield, it’s worth visiting the beautiful historic old town 5km away, which has great architecture and a museum dedicated to Christopher Columbus, who stopped off here on his first voyage to the Americas. There’s a good variety of signposted hiking trails in the hills, plus some spectacularly pretty towns like Teror and Tejeda. To the South, an hour away by coach, are the famous dunes of Maspalomas. There’s lots to do and see here!

Cleaning
We have a trusted cleaner who prepares our apartment in between guests' stays. We currently pay her €50 for two hours' cleaning and we would ask you to share our costs by sending us €25 when you arrive at our home and have confirmed that everything is as you were expecting to find it. This is in line with HomeExchange's guidance on cleaning fees, and if we are making a reciprocal exchange we of course expect to share your cleaning costs with you!

Digital Nomad Community
There's a well-connected community of digital nomads who've made their home here. It's very easy to link up with them via social networking through the Slack app or via WhatsApp groups. We're very happy to give our guests pointers to these if you want, so you can quickly link up with the local community and their social meetups. It's yet another nice feature of life here!
