Ce que vous allez adorer dans ce logement

Lovely light-filled modern home with stunning views. Warm and inviting, this is our family home. There is a large, beautiful post-and-beam screened porch and also a big open deck, both overlooking our woods and the Green Mountains of Quebec and Vermont. The open-plan main floor with dining room comfortably seats 8 or more, and the large comfy living room features a stone fireplace. The kitchen is full-size and well-equipped. All rooms feature the stunning view.

The master bedroom is on the upper floor, along with a lovely bathroom with separate tub and shower and heated floor. Both view the woods and mountains. There are two comfortable offices for reading or working.

The lower level also has the great panorama, along with two full bedrooms with high-quality queen-size beds and a newly-renovated full bath. A family room with state-of-the-art home theater (for those who care: LG OLED TV, B&W speakers, Denon AVR) and plush sofas, one of which is a truly comfortable queen-size convertible bed. Finally, there is a cheerful utility room with quartz counters, a stainless-steel sink, the washer and dryer, and a second refrigerator.

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier

The house is set into the side of a mountain in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, facing southwest. The Townships (known as les Cantons de l'Est or l'Estrie in French) are filled with stunning natural beauty and history, and this is one of the friendliest and most cheerfully bilingual (French/English) places in North America.

While the house is very private, it is not isolated, as there are friendly neighbours in close walking distance. While everyone will leave you in peace, we will give you contact information for several people who can answer questions or help you out.

The charming and lively village of Knowlton is a 12-minute drive, with a nice supermarket, shops and several restaurants. Brome Lake features beautiful views, walking trails and lovely Douglass Beach for swimming. There are several warm cafés. Less than a 30-minute drive away are the towns of Bromont, Sutton and Magog, each with sweet downtowns and lots of restaurants.

We are on the southern slope of Mount Foster at 520 meters elevation. The summit (at over 700 meters) is easily reached by lovely trails suitable for children or older adults, while challenging trails are right nearby.

Le mot de la fin

The town of Knowlton is the real-world village of Three Pines in Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache mysteries. There is an annual literary festival, and wonderful bilingual independent bookstore. There also is a theatre offering live plays and films in both English and French.

There are many artists living in the area. Each year, the Tour des Arts takes place in early July, featuring over three dozen artists selected by jury. Three artists (two painters and a ceramist) live on our road.

Winter is spectacular here, generally crisp and cold with snow cover. We are less than 45 minutes from four ski areas: Owl's Head, Orford, Bromont and Sutton. Jay Pike is just over the Vermont border, about an hour's drive. All of them offer year-round activities. Bromont offers night skiing on virtually all of its trails.

All seasons are great, of course. Summer is warm, with high temperatures in the 20s (mid-70s to low 80s) and cooling off at night. Fall here is mind-blowing - most of our trees are maples, and they explode into colour. Spring is muddy, to be sure, as all the snow melts, but brimming with new life. The terrain is very lush.

We are on a well-maintained gravel road. Since we are on a mountain, in the winter months, all-wheel-drive and winter tires (required by Quebec law) are necessary. We have a reliable service keeps our driveway clear.
