The Arenal Lakeview Villa is located in the cool rainforest mountains of Costa Rica on the north end of Lake Arenal as part of a 30 acre estate. There are paved roads all the way to the villa from the Liberia airport (1.5 hour drive ) or the San Jose airport (3.5 hour drive.)
The Arenal Lakeview Villa is a two story house that sleeps up to 7 guests with a unique design. The upper level has a private entrance and is complete with kitchen, bathroom and combined living/bedroom and a veranda. You will enjoy a spectacular setting at this Rainforest retreat with incredible views of Lake Arenal and the surrounding mountains. The villa has a fully equipped kitchen downstairs and upstairs where you can cook at home and enjoy your privacy. There are extensive hiking trails on our own Private Nature Reserve with stream, ponds to swim in and waterfalls to relax by as well as abundant wildlife and flora/fauna. Jungle treks through the rain forest is an eco-adventure you will not forget as you explore the manicured trails.
This is one of the few rental properties in the area that has Lake Arenal access just a few minutes walk from the house to the edge of the lake where you will discover the beautiful coves and landscape. There is no longer a dock but you can walk to the edge where you can fish, swim and kayak (when kayaks are available.) The house is set in the mountains so we get the cool morning and evening breezes and either mountain mist or rain. Temperatures range from 70-90 degrees during the day. It is next to the rain forest so expect some rain on most days. Imagine waking up to the sound of a running stream, the unique sound of the howler monkeys, and dozens of birds making their morning sounds as they explore the trees surrounding the house or eat at the nearby bird perch.
Bird watching in this temperate zone climate offers as many as 300 different species of birds. We have seen keel billed toucans, tanagers, parrots, hummingbirds, red legged honeycreepers, hawks and a virtual potpourri of colorful feathered friends. This is part of the experience of staying at the Costa Rica Lakeview Villa.
On occasion the howler monkey troop will choose the trees or canopy near the house to have breakfast or dinner. I have seen up to 20 at a time of various sizes as they circulate through the 30 acre property on some visits and none on others. We invite you to view some of the great pictures we have taken from the side of the house.

Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier
Some days it is great just to relax and enjoy morning coffee on the veranda, spend hours in the rainforest following the extensive hiking trails and the flowing stream down to the lake, enjoying the waterfalls and swimming in the natural pools of crystal water. It is like entering another world. From the veranda upstairs you have a perfect view of the lake, the windmills, the numerous birds and at night the lights of Tronadora across the lake.
There are also some great local restaurants in Nuevo Arenal which is about 15 minutes drive to enjoy pizza or gourmet food. The town of Nuevo (New) Arenal has changed little in the past 20 years. It remains a typical Costarican village with just enough grocery stores, bakeries, bars and restaurants to serve the community and the tourists .
The villa is one hour drive from La Fortuna which is a warmer climate and a busy central tourist hub. An excursions to La Fortuna gives you the opportunity to visit the Arenal Volcano, climb Cerro Chato the dormant volcano, swim in the pool created by the spectacular La Fortuna waterfall, go rafting in the rivers, ride the zip lines, visit the Hanging Gardens or relax in the hot thermal volcanic springs like Tabacon or Baldi Springs.
Traveling further west around the lake you will come to Hotel Tiwala where you can rent equipment for wind surfing which is reputed as one of the best in the world. You can also visit Tilaran and Viento Fresco Falls on the drive to Monteverde which is a popular tourist rain forest excursion. If you do go to Monteverde be sure to visit Selvatoura butterfly gardens and the zip line adventure. It is one of the longest in Costa Rica and a real adventure. The Canopy Tour has 15 cables and 18 platforms and you definitely zip through the canopy. There are also many beaches about 1.5 hours from the house going toward Liberia where you can enjoy the warm waters and surf.

Costa Rica Lakeview Villa 10 Point Wellness Walk
Costa Rica Lakeview Villa includes not only a beautiful place to stay but also a 10 Point Wellness Walk on the property. A visit to our Costa Rican home on the edge of Lake Arenal and the New Arenal Rain Forest will give you the opportunity to disconnect from technology and your stressful life and work. Studies show that even a small amount of time in nature can have an impact on health and wellness. We have created a 10 point wellness walk over the acre with the intent of connecting to nature for at least 5 minute at each spot. Each point has a butterfly stone with a number on the right corner.
Point #1 View of Lake Arenal and the mountains
Point #2 Butterfly table and water featured
Point #3 Bench of Serenity for reading
Point #4 Tai Chi Pool of Refreshing
Point #5 Memorial Spring and resting bench
Point #6 Spring Fed Stream
Point #7 Pond of Peace Cascade
Point #8 Rain Forest Bathing Bench
Point #9 Fork in the Mountain Stream
Point #10 Enchanted Tree Bathing
Point #1 View of Lake Arenal and the mountains
Start by pausing, taking a deep breath and focusing on the sensations around you. What do you see, smell, hear, taste and feel? Don’t rush through the experience – really explore what your five senses are telling you. Walk at a leisurely pace as you explore points 2-10 on the property.
Point #2 Butterfly table and water featured
The blue morpho Butterfly is known all over the world to be one of the world's most beautiful butterflies and that's because of its bright blue color on the upperside of its wings. The Morpho is neotropical but I have seen them on our property occasionally down by the stream. I made the mosaic design on this table to reflect on its beauty and meditate on the sound of the crystal water, the birds, the howler monkeys or the surrounding elements of the property.
Point #3 Bench of Serenity for reading or meditation
Meditation spot encourages better mental and emotional health as you find calmness and relaxation listening to the water cascading down the rocks. It is a great spot for reading as well.
Point #4 Tai Chi Pool of Refreshing
The Tai Chi Pool of harmony has a bench when you can sit quietly or immerse yourself in the cool spring water. When we jump into cold water plunge pool, the extreme change in temperature signals to our heart to pump more blood to our organs. As a result, circulation is improved, and toxins are more readily flushed out of our system, which leads to clearer skin and a healthy glow.’
When you immerse yourself in cold water, you feel a stinging sensation on your skin, which your body combats by producing yet more endorphins, which produce a feeling of elation once you get out.
Point #5 Memorial Spring and resting bench
Descend the steps to the lower level of the property where there is a long bench for seating or lying down to immerse yourself in the forest. The experience will depend on the time of day and the weather. You can listen for the sounds of the howler monkeys from here at dawn or dusk if they are foraging in this part of the forest. The key to unlocking the healing power of the forest is in the five senses. Let it enter through your ears, eyes, nose, mouth, hands, and feet. Listen to the birds singing and the breeze rustling in the leaves of the trees. Notice the different greens of the trees and the sunlight filtering through the branches. Smell the fragrance of the forest, and breathe in the natural aromatherapy of phytoncidest that have antibacterial and antifungal properties. Breathe deep and taste the freshness of the air. Feel the trunk of a tree. Dip your fingers or toes in a stream. Release the stress and welcome the calm. When you are able to fully engage your senses, you will truly connect with nature.
Point #6 Spring Fed Stream in the Rain Forest
Follow the path to the Crystal clear stream running the length of the property. Enter the stream with caution due to slippery rocks. The water is amazing.
In Japan, a study in the International Journal of Biometeorology found that forest bathing reduced the blood glucose levels of diabetics by 39.7%, more than with indoor exercise. The same study also discovered that certain forest trees emit organic compounds called phytoncides, and inhaling these compounds has been proven to decrease blood pressure and improve immune system functions.
Point #7 Pond of Peace Cascade
Follow the stream to the right upstream to a bench where you can continue your forest bathing experience. Mindfulness and Mind-Body-Nature connection is very powerful.. This is a quiet, peaceful location, beautiful scenery, fresh air, and great smells and sounds. Early morning or sundown sightings include howler monkeys and birds..
Point # 8 Rain Forest Bathing Bench
The Forest bathing is not just a walk in the woods. It is the mindful, almost meditative practice of “bathing” yourself in nature. The goal of this activity is to be present in the moment, immerse yourself in nature, and soak in the atmosphere through your senses. This type of connection is meant to give a sense of comfort and clarity, ease stress, and refresh and rejuvenate you. Phytocides or airborne essential wood oils provide a natural immunity boost. The health benefits of breathing in the fresh forest air can last up to a month. Notice there is an exit here back to the house through the gate.
Point #9 Fork in the Mountain Stream
Continue upstream carefully. A walking stick or rubber boots are helpful. Walk with caution. You will reach the main tributary of the stream that forks into two smaller streams. A great place to stop and reflect. Dip your toes or feet in the pure cold mountain water. The cold water stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps your body rest and repair itself. This also triggers the release of dopamine and serotonin which contribute to happiness. There is a natural high that comes from the rush of endorphins on entering the water.
Point #10 Enchanted Tree Bathing
Cautiously cross the stream to a cleared path to the giant tree on the property. Carry a walking stick and use rubber boots or good shoes with rubber soles. Depending on time of day there is a wonder contrast with the high branching meeting the blue sky. You can walk around the tree base and return back to the house or explore further with caution a there are no further manicured paths. Sit and enjoy the forest bathing.
A one or two hour forest bathing wellness walk will help you to unplug from technology and other life situations so that you can de-stress and relax. Enjoy the Costa Rica Lake View Villa and detox from daily stresses at our wellness destination. The rain forest and laid back lifestyle are ideal for any traveler in need of a digital detox and a little rest and relaxation from the technology that permeates modern life.
I need to mention there is a $50 Cleaning Fee paid to cleaning staff on the property. Enjoy the paradise.
