We hope you will enjoy our 150-year-old historic Provincetown home, on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, one of the most sought-after seaside locations on the East coast of the U. S. Whether you want to walk the beaches of the Cape Cod National Seashore nearly alone, curl up in the home's bay window to read or people watch , or dive into the abundant arts, shopping and nightlife options – in our home you have your choice.
Our typical New England "captain’s house" is featured on postcards, in local history books, and in many paintings. Our family has vacationed in Provincetown for a generation, and the house is very much the same as it has been for at least half a century. However, we have just finished a complete refurbishing – new “ sea glass” paint colors throughout, but preserving the original structure.
Our home consists of 2, 300 sq. feet including three bedrooms with fine linens, dining room seating for ten, living room with bay window and library alcove, separate library with fireplace and new pull-out sofa, fully equipped kitchen, 1. 5 baths and a fenced yard and garden. Comfortably sleeps three couples (2 bedrooms with double beds; one with 2 single beds) or two couples, putting children in the large bedroom with the twin beds and cots.
Located in the center of the town of Provincetown, we are one block from the town beach and harbor, and 10 minutes drive from National Seashore beaches, as well as miles of unique paved bike and hiking trails through some of the largest sand dunes on the East Coast of the U. S. We have parking for two cars, but many people who visit Provincetown arrive by air or ferry and only walk, use bicycles (we have several available) or the town's beach shuttle bus to get around.

Located at the tip of the 45 mile "arm" of sand and scrub pine known as Cape Cod, the "Cape" is probably best known for it’s quaint New England towns, National Seashore (government protected and undeveloped) beaches and being the vacation spot of well-known Americans such as the Kennedy’s (Hyannisport) or the Al Gore family (Truro).
Provincetown,on the surface, looks like a typical New England seaside resort community (3, 000 inhabitants winter; 25, 000 high season) of picturesque white clapboard homes clustered on a town harbor filled with fishing and lobstering boats, as well as pleasure craft. However, Provincetown is anything but typical, boasting a long and varied history including: being the first landing place of the Pilgrims (1600’ s) ; supporting thriving fishing a whaling industries (1700 and 1800’s) ; and in the early and mid-1900’s, hosting an arts colony attracting such well known abstract painters as Robert Motherwell, Hans Hoffman, and Mark Rothko and writers Tennesee Williams and Eugene O’ Neill, just to name a very few.
Today, Provincetown is known for attracting a variety of people seeking the relaxation and beautiful scenery of the National Seashore beaches by day – and a varied nightlife of restaurants, bars, gallery openings, peforming arts, and shopping. To be sure, Provincetown attracts an eclectic crowd including: families seeking sand, surf and the best whale-watching on the East Coast; art lovers visiting the more than 40 art galleries and artist studios or taking painting classes plein air; and, singles and gays seeking days of sun bathing and nights of dancing, live music or comedy. You might see current residents like writer Michael Cunningham strolling down the street, or movie director John Waters on his bike, or the Universalist Church hosting a classical music concert one night and competitive games of "drag bingo" the next. Anything goes in Provincetown. That’s the beauty of the place!

Provincetown is beautiful from spring thru late fall -- although we love it during the winter months, too. We do not seek a simultaneous exchange since this is a second home. From Provincetown, you can also visit any other town on the Cape (most within a 1hr drive) and easily spend a day or two in Boston (2. 5 hours by ferry or car) or travel to the popular islands of Martha's Vinyard or Nantucket.
